Abstract: Methods and compositions for controlling visceral organ function are provided. For example, the methods and compositions are useful to prevent, inhibit or treat disease as a result of controlling, e.g., regulating, organ function. In one embodiment, viral vectors are delivered to an organ, and the virus infects a nerve that regulates a function of the organ. In one embodiment, the vial vector is a retrograde vector. In one embodiment, the viral vector encodes a gene product, the activity of which is controlled by an exogenously delivered agent or energy. The delivery of the agent or energy thus controls the organ function.

Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, systems and methods to determine a blood pressure measurement of a subject, such as a systolic blood pressure of a subject, a diastolic blood pressure of the subject, or both, using received heart sound information and plethysmography information of the subject. The system can include a signal receiver circuit configured to receive the heart sound information and plethysmography information of the subject, and an assessment circuit configured to determine the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of the subject using the received heart sound information and the plethysmography information of the subject.

Abstract: A modular endoscope system comprises an imaging guidewire comprising an elongate shaft extending from a proximal end to a distal end, an imaging device located proximate the distal end of the elongate shaft and a lighting element located proximate the distal end of the elongate shaft, and an intervention accessory configured to slide along the elongate shaft to provide a medical intervention. A method of providing a medical intervention to an internal anatomic location comprises inserting an imaging guidewire into an anatomic passageway, viewing target anatomy with imaging capabilities of the imaging guidewire, pushing an intervention accessory along the imaging guidewire to the target anatomy, and operating the intervention accessory to provide an intervention on the target anatomy.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for assessing collateral ventilation. An illustrative embodiment includes a flexible insertion catheter device includes an outer tube having an inner diameter. The outer tube includes a plurality of ports at a distal end and an occlusion device filling port located proximal from the plurality of ports. Also, the flexible insertion catheter device includes an inner tube receivable within the outer tube. The inner tube includes a flow lumen and an outer diameter less than the inner diameter of the outer tube. The flexible insertion catheter device further includes an occlusion device attachable to the outer tube and configured to selectively seal a bronchial passageway to occlude a lobe of a lung.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and executable programs for providing lung candidacy information to health care professionals. A method includes receiving three-dimensional image data categorized as lung lobe voxels, airway voxels, or lung fissure voxels. A fissure integrity score is generated for the lung fissure voxels. First perspective transparent views of the categorized lung lobe voxels, the categorized airway voxels, and the categorized lung fissure voxels are generated based on a first point of view. The first perspective view of the lung fissure voxels includes a visual representation of fissure integrity based on the generated fissure integrity scores for the corresponding voxels. A report is generated that includes the generated views. The report is outputted.

Abstract: Patient mobility assessments may be improved using an augmented reality patient assessment module. To reduce subjectivity of a mobility assessment, a depth camera may be used to determine precise patient motion, generate a skeletal model of the patient, and determine range of motion for various patient joints. An augmented reality head-mounted display may include a transparent display screen, and may be used to display the skeletal model overlaid on the patient while the patient is being viewed through the transparent display screen. A medical practitioner may guide the patient through a series of musculoskeletal evaluation activities, which may be used to generate the skeletal model of the patient and determine range of motion for various patient joints. The skeletal model and range of motion information may be used to generate a predicted postoperative skeletal model, which may indicate an improved range of motion based on a surgical procedure.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media that schedules requests for location data of a mobile device, where the methods include selecting a first positioning system based on a power requirement, a latency requirement, and an accuracy requirement, and determining whether a first condition is satisfied for querying the first positioning system. The method further comprises in response to a determination that the first condition is satisfied, querying the first positioning system for first position data. The method further comprises in response to a determination that the first condition is not satisfied, selecting a second positioning system based on the power requirement, the latency requirement, and the accuracy requirement, determining whether a second condition is satisfied for querying the second positioning system, and in response to a determination that the second condition is satisfied, querying the second positioning system for second position data.
