An organometallic composition comprises a complex of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium and hafnium and an acetoacetate ester in which the molar ratio of Ti or Hf to acetoacetate ester is in the range 1:2.5 to 1:10 or the molar ratio of Zr to acetoacetate ester is in the range 1:45 to 1:10 and said acetoacetate ester is an ester of an alcohol containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The oganometallic composition is useful in polyisocyanate compositions, particularly those used as binders for lignocellulosic materials and polyisocyanate compositions containing the organometallic compositions of the invention have good stability on storage.

The composites include about 35-75 wt.% of a poymeric resin, about 25-65 wt.% fiber and have a specific gravity of less than about 1.25 g/cc. The low density is provided by the introduction of a blowing agent or gas into a molten precursor of the composite during thermoforming, such as in an extrusion operation.

The resin matrix (22) primarily contains a curable liquid resin, metal or stone particles, and a catalyst. The composite piece has the appearance of metal or stone and the utility of a peace of plywood, particle board, or other building panel. This invention also relates to a process for fabricating the composite pieces. In addition, this invention is directed to a thin, composite sheet or laminate-like product and methods for manufacturing the thin composite. This thin composite has the appearance of metal or stone, but can be used in construction like a piece of high-pressure decorative laminate or flexible paneling or the like.

In a method for manufacturing bamboo chips, first the nodes may be removed from the bamboo culms by sawing through the bamboo culms at each side of a node, and then the bamboo culms are peeled preferably by bringing the bamboo culms on rotating rolls provided with knives. After this the bamboo culms are roughly splitted lengthwise preferably by driving a conical bar through the hollow bamboo culm, and thereafter the splitted pieces are finely chipped. In a method for manufacturing bamboo wool, first the bamboo culms are chipped, then the bamboo chips are preferably introduced in a rotating drum (25) containing balls (27) and steam (29) is added to soften the bamboo chips. By pressing the bamboo wool and/or bamboo chips after adding glue and during heating of the mixture, products like boards or profiles (31) can be obtained.

The disclosure relates to adhesive compositions, including non-crosslinked resins and crosslinked/cured adhesives joining substrates, as well as related methods for making the compositions and articles. Compared to a conventional phenol (P) and formaldehyde (F) resin, the disclosed methods and compositions use lignin (L), formaldehyde (F), and optionally higher aldehydes (A) as corresponding replacements to provide an analog to a conventional PF resin with biobased reactants. Due to the differing reactivity of the LF components compared to the PF components, the initial condensation reaction between ortho-reactive sites in the lignin and the aldehyde is controlled to prevent gelation of the aqueous reaction mixture while reacting substantially all of the LF reactants to provide a non-crosslinked resin reaction product. The resin reaction product can then be cured at high temperature/high pressure conditions to provide a crosslinked adhesive, for example joining two substrates.
