Abstract:
The invention concerns a novel type of copolymer emitting in green derived from N-(2,5 di tertbutyl phenyl naphthalamide). Said materials are particularly useful for making electroluminescent diodes owing to the chromophoric groups of the phenyl-tBu type which increases the efficiency of photoluminescence.
Abstract:
A water soluble polymer that when used with a suitable photoacid generator (PAG) forms a negative working water soluble photoresit. The polymer comprises a backbone, such as polyvinyl ehter, coupled by a linkage group to an acetal protected beta -keto acid group. With the addition of a number of commercially available photo acid generators, the polymer formulation forms a negative working photoresist that is water soluble. Exposure to radiation will cause a photoacid catalyzed deprotection of the acetal group, yielding a beta -keto acid which, upon heating, will indergo decarboxylation, which results in a water insoluble photoproduct and evolution of CO2 as a byproduct. This photochemically induced reaction results in a significant change in the polymer solubility parameter, and the product is no longer soluble in water. As this solubility change does not require crosslinking, there will be no swelling of the resist images on exposure to the aqueous base during development, and hence no loss of resolution. This enables the photoresist to be used at fine resolutions at in-line and deep UV wavelengths.

A stent for implantation into a body passage comprising first and second sets of helical counter-rotating metallic filaments which are braided together to define a tubular stent body which is biased toward a first radially expanded configuration and which is compressible into a second radially compressed configuration, the filaments being encased in an elastomer having a hardness of up to 100 on the Shore A hardness scale.
Abstract:
Ink-jet inks for ink-jet printing are provided which include a vehicle and a colorant, the colorant associated with a primer core/shell polymer to form a primer/colorant combination, and the primer/colorant combination, upon printing on a print medium, encapsulated by a durable core/shell polymer. The primer core/shell polymer serves to promote adhesion of the durable core/shell polymer to the colorant and to disperse the colorant in the ink and the durable core/shell polymer serves to provide a smear-fast film upon drying of the ink on a print medium. The primer core/shell polymer comprises a hydrophobic core and a hydrophilic shell comprising a polar component, while the durable core/shell polymer comprises a hydrophobic core comprising a first Tg component, which, when homopolymerized, has a glass transition temperature, Tg, between -150 DEG C to +25 DEG C and a second Tg component, which, when homopolymerized, has a glass transition temperature above +25 DEG C and a hydrophilic shell selected from the group consisting of neutral shells, cationic shells, and anionic shells.
Abstract:
The present invention provides inverse hexagonal phase-forming lyotropic liquid crystalline monomers having the formula (I): HG?1-T(X1-PG1)¿n, in which HG1 represents a 'hydrophilic' head group; T represents a bond or a template for the attachment of lipid tail groups, the template being an aromatic ring, monosaccharide, or polyhydroxylated lower alkyl group; each X1 independently represents a hydrophobic lipid tail group in a linear or branched chain and optionally interrupted by one or more heteroatom groups and wherein R is alkyl or group; each PG1 is a polymerizable group; and n is an integer from 1 to 4. The present invention also provides an ordered nanocomposite and a method for synthesizing the same. The composite has a matrix component and a filler component. In other aspects, the present invention provides a nanoporous, hexagonal polymer network which is useful for catalysis of chemical reactions and for the purification of solutions including both liquids and gases using membrane filtration.
Abstract:
Homopolymers of olefin monomers having polar functional groups, and copolymers of these monomers with each other and with non-polar olefins and optionally carbon monoxide are disclosed. The polymers can be prepared by contacting the corresponsping monomers with a transition metal catalyst under comparatively mild conditions; this preserves at least some of the polar functional groups in the resulting polymer. The polymers are suitable for processing in conventional extrusion processes, and can be formed into high barrier sheets or films, or low molecular weight resins for use in synthetic waxes in wax coatings or as emulsions.
