Abstract:
A method of detecting precipitation with a sodar apparatus (200) that transmits sound beams (31) into the atmosphere, detects echoes returned from the atmosphere, from the echoes determines a Doppler-shifted spectrum (41, 42) comprising the relative strength of the echoes at various Doppler-shifted frequencies, and estimates wind speed and direction. The method includes automatically estimating the presence of precipitation (42) based on the Doppler-shifted spectrum (41, 42).
Abstract:

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an antenna for a mobile object which has a rotating structure orienting toward a satellite to transmit and receive a satellite signal. The effective range of incidence and radiation for the satellite signal is configured to secure the predetermined range as a result of rotating as widely as possible. In particular, the antenna includes: a flat array antenna in which a flat electric wave incident and radiant layer is formed by plural arranged element units; and a horn-shaped conductive panel that is extended at an incline from at least a portion of the outmost, which is placed in the plane direction of the electric wave incident and radiant layer, while formed at an obtuse angle with the electric wave incident and radiant layer within 180°.

A system, techniques, and apparatus for determining RFID tag movement are disclosed. The system includes an RFID reader that is configured to detect an RFID tag's motion by comparing backscattered signals received from the tag. The system can also generate and filter alerts according to pre-defined business rules based on the detection.
Abstract:
A system and method for identifying opens among parallel connections on a circuit assembly such as a printed circuit board (PCB). In a learn phase performed on a known good circuit assembly, a group of parallel connected pins are excited with a first signal. A second signal, out-of-phase with the first signal, is applied to a second group of pins associated with the component. The amplitude and/or the phase of the second signal and the number and/or specific pins in the second group of pins are selected so that first and second signals coupled to a detector plate proximal to the component substantially offset. During a manufacturing test, signals of comparable amplitude and phase are applied to like pins on a like component of a circuit assembly under test. If the response signal coupled to a like detector plate is below a threshold, it is determined that each pin in the group of parallel connected pins is connected. If the amplitude of the response is over the threshold, one or more of the parallel pins is determined to be open. Additional tests may be performed to identify which of the parallel pins is likely open.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a radio frequency tag. The tag comprises a receiver for receiving radio frequency waves having an amplitude spectrum provided with a first frequency component and a second frequency component. The tag also comprises a converter associated with the receiver for generating a signal having a frequency component at the frequency difference between the first frequency and the second frequency. In addition, the tag comprises a signal circuit for processing the generated signal and a coupler for forwarding the generated signal from the receiver towards the signal circuit. The signal circuit comprises a transmitter for transmitting the generated signal as a transmitted radio wave. Further, the transmitter comprises a magnetic loop antenna including a resonant LC loop.

The invention concerns a transceiver comprising a radio frequency photonic transmitter and a radio frequency photonic receiver coupled to a switch or a circulator. The photonic transmitter, or opto-electronic oscillator, is based on electro-optical modulation in a micro-disk resonator. The photonic receiver is also based on a micro-disk resonator, which is adapted to mix the RF input from the antenna and the local oscillator signal from the photonic transmitter with an optical signal from a laser. Suitable for a radar based on the Doppler effect.

The invention relates to a method for detection of respiration of a patient comprising the following steps: emitting an electromagnetic signal towards the patient; receiving a reflected electromagnetic signal reflected from the patient; converting the reflected electromagnetic signal, yielding a first signal; phase-shifting the reflected electromagnetic signal and converting the phase-shifted reflected electromagnetic signal, yielding a second signal; determining a first vector being defined by the time derivatives of the first signal and the second signal, for a common first point in time; determining a second vector being defined by the time derivatives of the first signal and the second signal, for a common second point in time; and calculating the scalar product of the normalized first vector and the normalized second vector as an indicator value for a change from expiration to inspiration of the patient or vice versa. A change from expiration to inspiration of the patient or vice versa is preferably indicated if the indicator value is below a threshold value, preferably below a value of 0. In this way, a possibility for contactless remote respiration monitoring of a patient based on the Doppler radar principle is provided which is reliable and easy to handle.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for detecting an energy emission event are provided. In a method for detecting an energy emission event, a reference event signal is compared with a received event signal. In some embodiments, the reference event signal is associated with radiated energy having a predetermined temporal response. A detection signal is output when the received event signal corresponds to the reference event signal. In response to outputting the detection signal, imagery of a location in proximity to where the received event signal originated is captured or processed. Using the captured imagery and the detection signal, a determination of where the received event signal originated is made.
