    Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for the preparation of a surfactant, said method comprising reacting a furanic compound according to formula (V), or a salt thereof, with a malonate according to formula (VI), or a salt thereof, to obtain a first furan-based surfactant precursor of formula (I) or a salt thereof, (V) + (VI) (I) wherein R1 is H or CH2OX, wherein X is H or an aliphatic group; wherein R2, R3 and R4 are independently H or an aliphatic group; wherein the method further comprises one or more steps to convert the first furan-based surfactant precursor of formula (I), or a salt thereof, to a surfactant, which surfactant comprises - a furan-moiety comprising a backbone structure of formula (VII), (VII); - a hydrophilic moiety, preferably selected from the group consisting of sulfate, sulfonate, sulfinate, thiosulfate, sulfamidate, carboxylate, sarcosinate and taurate, phosphate, pyrophosphate, phosphonate, amines or ammonium, polyammonium, hydroxyammonium, pyridinium, picolinium, imidazolinium, benzimidazolinium, oxonium, sulfonium, phosphonium and non-ionic groups, and; - a hydrophobic moiety comprising an aliphatic chain comprising at least 6 carbon atoms.

    Abstract: The present disclosure concerns a system (100) for measuring external force. The system comprises a substrate (1) forming a set of closed pockets (2) having at least a flexible wall (3) deforming as function of the external force and an enclosed MEMS devices 4, configured to cause variation of an electric signal as function of a pressure (P) inside the pocket. The flexible wall is provided with an outwards protruding shape configured to flex inwards into the pocket in presence of the external force and provided with a resilient means configured to recover the outwards protruding shape absent the external force.

    Abstract: The present invention concerns an improved process for a process for the treatment of biomass, comprising (a) subjecting biomass to hydrothermal treatment in a hydrothermal reactor by immersing the biomass in a treatment liquid, wherein an effluent drained from step (b) or (c) is used as treatment liquid; (b) draining the liquid from the reactor via a liquid outlet to obtain a liquor and simultaneously or subsequently introducing another washing liquid into the reactor, wherein the washing liquid is pre-heated to a temperature 30 °C below operational temperature of step (a) or higher before being introduced into the reactor, (c) draining the reactor to obtain washed hydrothermally treated biomass and an effluent, wherein at least one of step (a) and (b) is performed at a temperature in the range of 100 - 250 °C. The invention further concerns a solid fuel and a liquor obtained by the process according to the invention, as well as a hydrothermal treatment facility to operate the process according to the invention.

    Abstract: A method and system for light induced transfer of components (15) from a donor substrate (10) to an acceptor substrate (20). The donor substrate (10) comprises a transparent carrier (11) configured to carry the components (15) facing the acceptor substrate (20), and a release stack (S). The release stack (S) comprises a light-absorbing layer (12), a melt layer (13), and an adhesive layer (14). The light-absorbing layer (12) has a relatively high absorption coefficient for absorbing the light beam (L) causing heat which is conducted to the melt layer (13). The light-absorbing layer (12) has a relatively high melting temperature (Tm12) such that the light-absorbing layer (12) can remain solid while the melt layer (13) is melted. The adhesive layer (14) adheres the components (15) to the melt layer (13) while the melt layer (13) is solid and releases adhesion when the melt layer (13) is melted (M).
