    Abstract: Alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a paraffin alkylating agent under alkylation reaction conditions in the presence of catalyst comprising synthetic porous crystalline material characterized by an X-ray diffraction pattern including interplanar d-spacings at 12.36 +/- 0.4, 11.03 +/- 0.2, 8.83 +/- 0.14, 6.18 +/- 0.12, 6.00 +/- 0.10, 4.06 +/- 0.07, 3.91 +/- 0.07, and 3.42 +/- 0.06 Angstroms.

    Abstract: A production logging tool (12) includes a plurality of pads (40, 42, 44, 46) located on the outer periphery of the well and are directed toward the borehole center. In the preferred embodiment, eight pads (40, 42, 44, 46, 50, 52, 54, 56) are used, with two groups of four pads, each group is spaced apart on the production log tool. Each set of four includes two pairs spaced opposite each other, all four being placed at ninety degree intervals along the circumference of the wellbore. The second set of four pads are also placed at ninety degree intervals along the circumference of the wellbore, however, the group of pads for the second set are displaced forty-five degrees along the circumference of the wellbore from the group of pads for the first set. Each pad contains two hot wire anemometers (68, 70) for temperature measurement, a capacitor plate (74A, 74I) and an ultrasonic transducer (78) pointed toward reflective plates mounted on the center of the production log tool. The present invention may also include orientation measuring devices (32), pressure measuring devices (28), centralizing equipment (26, 36), etc. as included in many types of prior art tools.

    Abstract: A shape-selective catalyst comprises a synthetic porous crystalline material having the structure of ZSM-5 and a composition involving the molar relationship: X2O3:(n)YO2, wherein X is a trivalent element, such as aluminum, boron, iron and/or gallium, preferably aluminum; Y is a tetravalent element such as silicon and/or germanium, preferably silicon; and n is greater than about 12, and wherein the crystals have a major dimension of at least about 0.5 micron and a surface YO2/X2O3 ratio which is no more than 20 % less than the bulk YO2/X2O3 ratio of the crystal. The crystals have a diffusion-modifying surface coating of a refractory material such as silica or coke. The catalyst is useful in a wide variety of selective hydrocarbon conversion processes, particularly the selective disproportionation of toluene to para-xylene.
