A process and apparatus for making aromatics are described. The process includes reforming a naphtha stream in a reforming zone to form a reformer effluent comprising aromatic compounds and non-aromatic compounds, wherein at least a portion of the aromatic compounds contain alkyl groups. The reformer effluent is heated and passed directly to an acid cracking reaction zone. The non-aromatic compounds are selectively cracked and at least a portion of the alkyl groups on the aromatic compounds are selectively dealkylated in the presence of an acid cracking catalyst to form a cracked reformer effluent comprising the aromatic compounds and cracked olefins.

A process for the isomerization of a para -xylene depleted, meta -xylene rich stream under at least partially liquid phase conditions using ZSM-23 with an external surface area of at least 75 m 2 /g (indicating a small crystallite size), and a SiO 2 /AI 2 O 3 ratio between 15 and 75 that produces a higher than equilibrium amount of para -xylene, i.e., more than about 24 wt% of para -xylene, based on the total amount of xylenes.

Methods are provided for the treatment of a feed stream containing C9 aromatic components to produce mesitylene-containing products. The methods include hydrodealkylating the feed stream to remove C2 and higher alkyl groups from the aromatic components and transalkylating the feed stream to rearrange the distribution of methyl groups among the aromatic components. Disclosed methods also include the treatment of a hydrocarbon feedstock by hydrodealkylation and/or transalkylation in order to produce a hydrocarbon product having an increased mass percentage of mesitylene.

A new family of aluminosilicate zeolites designated UZM-44 has been synthesized. These zeolites are represented by the empirical formula. Na n M m k+ T t Al 1-x E x Si y O z where "n" is the mole ratio of Na to (Al + E), M represents a metal or metals from zinc, Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and or the lanthanide series of the periodic table, "m" is the mole ratio of M to (Al + E), "k" is the average charge of the metal or metals M, T is the organic structure directing agent or agents, and E is a framework element such as gallium. UZM-44 may be used to catalyze an aromatic transformation process by contacting a feed comprising at least a first aromatic with UZM-44 at hydrocarbon conversion conditions to produce at least a second aromatic.

An integrated process for producing aromatic hydrocarbons and ethylene and/or propylene and optionally other lower olefins from low molecular weight hydrocarbons, preferably methane, which comprises: (a) contacting at least one low molecular weight alkane, preferably methane, with a halogen, preferably bromine. under process conditions sufficient to produce a monohaloalkane, preferably monobromomethane, (b) reacting the monohaloalkane in the presence of a coupling catalyst to produce aromatic hydrocarbons and C 2 + alkanes, (c) separating the aromatic hydrocarbons from the product mixture of step (b) to produce aromatic hydrocarbons, and (d) cracking at least part of the C 2 + alkanes in an alkane cracking system to produce ethylene and/or propylene and optionally other lower olefins.

A catalyst composition which comprises: a) a carrier which comprises a pentasil zeolite of at least 20wt% on the basis of the total carrier and being in its H+ form,- b) platinum in an amount in the range of from 0.001 to 0.1 wt%, on the basis of the total catalyst; and, c) at least one additional metal selected from: nickel, copper and silver in an amount in the range from 0.0001 to 0.1 wt% on the basis of the total catalyst. The catalyst is typically used in an ethylbenzene dealkylation process of a hydrocarbonaceous feed and can reduce transalkylation activity and the consequential unwanted loss of xylene within the feed. Certain especially preferred embodiments containing silver can increase benzene purity.
