Abstract: A novel composition of weatherable and semi-weatherable materials that can be injection molded or extruded into sheets or rolls to create a roofing product wherein the roofing product overlaps in order to provide a substantially weatherable covering on a roof. The roofing product has a top layer (14) made of weatherable polymers and multiple substrate layers (22, 30) made of semi-weatherable polymers. A decorative, three dimensional appearing layer (16) of colorants is uniquely applied to the bottom surface (15) of the top layer (14). The weatherable top layer (14) is preferably an ASA or acrylic-type copolymer. The semi-weatherable bottom layers (22, 30) are specialized formulations of fire resistant polymers, where the semi-weatherable bottom layers (22, 30) have had the Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT) uniquely improved for use in roofing. The product has multi-layering UV stability. The multiple layers can be injection molded or extruded or laminated or preferably multi-layer-extruded, thus bonded. Then the bonded materials maybe used directly as a finished roofing product (10) or thermoformed product (10a) (if not injection molded) to resemble more popular types of roof coverings such as shake or shingles or slate or tiles or geometric and natural patterns. The multiple layers are engineered to pass stringent roofing building codes such as the International Construction Code (ICC), including fire rating.

Abstract: The invention provides a resiliently deformable construction element covering (10) which permits a structure constructed using said covering to deform in sympathy with weather and other natural forces and to recover to substantially to its original state. The covering (10) includes a resiliently deformable film (12) having at least a portion (46) extending beyond the surface of the construction element (40) onto which the film is to be applied thereby to a define a flap (46) which overlaps onto an adjacent construction element, and an adhesive (16) for applying the film (12) to the construction element. The covering (10) also includes a coating composition or system (22) capable of being applied to the film and of dissipating most of any decorative damage over an area around a stressed area of the film which is causing the decorative damage thereby to form individual cracks in the coating composition that are substantially invisible to the naked eye. The invention also extends to a pre-manufactured construction element (40) for use in assembly of structures using semi-skilled labour.

Abstract: A covering (20), e.g. for a roof or wall, comprises a bottom layer of generally U-shaped sections (30) covered by an upper layer of inverted U-shaped sections (40), at least some of the sections having flexible edges and/or folded central regions to permit transverse thermal flexing. The sections are interconnected by hook-like elements (41) on one section engaging correspondingly shaped portions (34, 35) on the other section. Clearances between the fixings and sections also permit longitudinal thermal flexing. The top and bottom sections (30, 40) may be of the same or different materials selected from plastics sheet metal, ceramic or composite material. Bottom sections (330) may be attached to the building by clamp elements (114) previously attached to the building in a desired array. The clip elements fit underneath the bottom sections (330) so that after attachment thereof, opening of the clamp elements to release the bottom sections is resisted. The covering can alternatively be used for internal walls, ceilings and floors, or for vehicles.

Abstract: Panel unit assemblies with first and second engagement members having panel- attachment members for retaining portions of the panels and pairs of opposed transparent or translucent panels with retaining portions attached to the panel-attachment members of the first and second engagement members to form adjacent interlocked panel units. The first engagement member has a first wall disposed between the first pair of panels and a male member projecting from the first wall with at least one catch rail and the second engagement member has a second wall disposed between the panels with a pair of sidewalls defining an interlock cavity for receiving the male member. The catch rail of the male member is disposed adjacent to an inner surface of the sidewalls to engage an interlock cavity sidewall inner surface and limit pivoting movement of the panels.
