An optical film material suitable for use in low curl or curl free optical film-to-paper laminates is provided. The inventive optical film material includes a light-transmitting polymeric optical spacer or carrier film that has a linear coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of less than about 25 x 10 -6 mm/mm-°C over the temperature range of from about 70 to about 160°C, or that is hygroscopic {e.g., has an ambient moisture absorption, measured as a percentage moisture content, similar to paper), or both. Also provided is an optical film-to-paper laminate {e.g., a micro-optic film-to-passport paper laminate) that demonstrates a reduction in (or elimination of) curl. The inventive laminate exhibits a maximum out-of-plane deformation of less than about 10%.

A welded joint for structural component having two or more portions (18, 20) fused together at a weld line (42). An adhesive layer (36) is placed between the two or more portions (18, 20) at the location of the weld line (42) and a conductor (38) is placed between the two or more portions (18, 20) in operable contact with the adhesive. Energy is transmitted through the conductor (38) and into the adhesive layer (36) to activate the adhesive layer (36) and create the weld line (42) that defines the welded joints between the two or more portions (18, 20). The welded joint of the structural component allows energy to be injected into the adhesive (36) layer via the conductor (38) in order to cause the adhesive layer (36) to activate from the inside of the adhesive outward. The conductor (38) can be placed adjacent the adhesive layer (36) or within the adhesive layer (36) in order to cause the adhesive to be activated from the inside outward.
