The present disclosure pertains to a process for preparing a laminate comprising: providing a dried overlay and a base sheet wherein at least one of the dried overlay and the base sheet comprises a resin-impregnated, opaque, cellulose pulp-based sheet; applying a fluorourethane to the dried overlay to form a treated overlay; drying the treated overlay; and laminating the treated overlay to the base sheet. The disclosed process hereby produces a laminate whose outer surface is modified with the fluorourethane and the cleanability, oil repellency, and abrasion resistance of such a laminate is improved.

A method of manufacturing a resin-impregnated printed paper includes applying printed indicia to a paper substrate, impregnating the printed paper with resin and thereafter treating the resin-impregnated printed paper to reduce its water content and to at least partially cure the impregnating resin, whereby to produce a further cured resin-impregnated printed paper. The reduction of water is effected by irradiation with near infrared (NIR) radiation. The paper and/or printed indicia contain one or more pigments selected for their relatively low absorption of NIR radiation and/or a plurality of pigments selected for their mutual relatively low differences in absorption of NIR radiation whereby to minimize localised blistering of the resin arising from any NIR absorption by the pigments. Also disclosed is a décor paper and a laminate.

A method and apparatus for manufacturing a b-stage pre-preg of resin impregnated paper or non-woven. The method includes irradiating a resin impregnated paper or non-woven with near infra-red (NIR) radiation to at least partially remove solvent by evaporation of the solvent, and to advance cure of the resin, whereby to produce an at least partially dried and at least partially cured b-stage pre-preg. The apparatus includes a resin impregnation station (10) for impregnating a paper or non-woven (5) with resin carried by a solvent, and a heating and curing station (20) having irradiation means (24, 25) to irradiate the impregnated paper or non-woven (5') with near infra-red (NIR) radiation.

At least a part of the layers is formed by a fibrousweb or sheet containing 50–90 partsby weight of wood fibersand10–90partsby weight of annual or perennial plant fibersand/or10–50 partsby weight of synthetic short-cut fibers, and 0.1–20 % by weight of a binder, calculated from the weight of the fibers, and at least a part of the binder being a water-soluble polymer and another part a water dispersible binder, and the fibrous sheet or web being produced by wet forming. By means of the invention, the fibers of the composite structure can be recovered and recycled by equipment conventionally used in the paper and paperboard industry.

The present invention relates to a process for producing a paper or a board product having increased dimension stability comprising providing a fibre slurry comprising never-dried fibres, treating the fibre slurry with a strength composition, and forming a paper or a board product from the treated fibre slurry, wherein the strength composition comprises a permanent wet strength resin component and a sizing agent. The present invention further relates to a use of a strength composition for increasing dimensional stability of a paper and a board, and to a paper or a board product having improved dimensional stability.
