Abstract:
A monitoring system (10) is provided which includes a primary electronic tag (12), a secondary electronic tag (16), reading apparatus (20), and a comparator (26). The primary electronic tag (12) includes primary identification data associated with the primary bearer (14) of the tag (12) and the secondary electronic tag (16) includes secondary identification data. The secondary identification data is associated with a secondary bearer (18) of the tag (16) and is also associated with the primary identification data. The reading apparatus (20) remotely reads the primary and secondary identification data and the comparator (26) compares the data and generates an output signal dependent upon the outcome of the comparison. The invention extends to a primary electronic tag (12) for use in monitoring movement of at least one secondary electronic tag (16). The invention also extends to a method of monitoring movement from a selected zone and a method of monitoring the use of at least one vehicle.
Abstract:
An electronic device (18) is displayed for purchase by a user (14) and includes a controller (24) and a protected area for storing a key and a bar code (1008) is associated with and for identifying the device including a password unique to the device, wherein upon purchase of the device, the password is compared to the key and upon successful activation thereof, the device is activated, otherwise, the device is rendered inoperable.
Abstract:
A moisture detection sensor is used in a building structure to detect moisture penetration. the sensor is a flat element, preferably in the form of a self-adhesive tape. It includes a substrate of dielectric, hydrophobic material. Two elongate, parallel, conductors are secured to the top surface of the substrate and a protective layer of non-hygroscopic, water pervious material secured to the to the top surface of the substrate, over the conductors. A pressure sensitive mounting adhesive is placed on a bottom surface of the substrate and covered with a release sheet. The sensor may include moisture probes adapted to penetrate the protective layer, the respective conductors and the substrate and to extend into a building component to which the substrate has been adhered. Each probe is made from a conductive, corrosion resistant material. This is particularly useful with water absorbent building materials, such as wood, where the surface may appear dry, but the body is impregnated with water. The preferred moisture probe is a U-shaped metal element configured to be driven in by a conventional power stapler.
Abstract:
An electronic article surveillance assembly comprises an upstanding housing having a closed ceiling and a floor having a continuous peripheral portion bounding a central floor opening, the housing having an interior cavity communicating with the central floor opening, an EAS marker being disposed in the housing interior cavity, the housing defining a sidewall extending from the ceiling to the continuous peripheral floor portion and tapered to form the housing with a periphery having a V-shaped cross-section. Further provided is, in combination, an electronic article surveillance assembly comprising an upstanding housing having a closed ceiling and a floor having a continuous peripheral portion bounding a central floor opening, the housing having an interior cavity commucating with the central floor opening, an EAS marker being disposed in the housing interior cavity, the housing defining a sidewall extending from the ceiling to the continuous peripheral floor portion and tapered to form the housing with a periphery having a V-shaped cross-section and an article of manufacture, the continuous floor peripheral portion being secured to an exterior surface of the article of manufacture.
Abstract:
A multiple heat sensor alarm system for use in a vehicle to indicate that the interior temperature is above a preset limit has a control head with a microprocessor. Heat sensors or thermometers are placed at different points in the vehicle and connected to the microprocessor. The processor averages all sensor inputs and compares the average to the preset alarm temperature limit. When the limit is exceeded the microprocessor issues an alarm command. The system is connected to the vehicle components and the alarm command operates the horn, lights, windows, doors, or engine. The system may correspond with a portable beeper/pager. The system also monitors the battery power of the vehicle and indicates a low power situation.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of a smart label inlet web (W5), in which method a smart label (12) is protected from external effects by means of a surface film (15) coated with an adhesive, the adhesive being in contact with the smart label (12). The adhesive is cured by radiation. The invention also relates to a smart label inlet web (W5) comprising a surface film (15), a smart label (12) and a back web (W3) attached to each other. The surface film (15) is attached to the smart label (12) with an adhesive cured by radiation.
Abstract:
A signalling device comprises means for storing electrical energy, e.g. a battery (41) which are connected to signalling means such as one or more LEDs (48). Control means (45) are provided to prevent actuation of the LED (48) so long as current is supplied and to activate the LED (48) if that current falls below a threshold. For many applications, the device preferably includes one or more solar cells to generate current to the control means (45) and hence to render the device sensitive to the presence or absence of ambient light.
Abstract:
A meter reading system preferably includes an external modem module (EMM), a hub and a data collection system. The EMM communicates with one or more utility meters and, as such, is preferably selected on the basis that it incorporates a communication format that is compatible with the communication format of the utility meter such that the utility meter does not require modification to be communicatively coupled to the EMM. The EMM obtains meter data from the utility meter and converts to a radio frequency communication format. The radio frequency formatted data is then transferred to the hub. The hub then translates the radio frequency data into an analog or digital telephone communication format, which is then transferred to the data collection system for use by the utility as desired, e.g. utility billing, tracking, control, etc. The data collection system need only recognize one communication format rather than attempting to accommodate numerous message formats such as wires, coaxial cable, optical fiber, or radio frequency.
Abstract:
The presence of radiation shielding material concealing illegitimate content in a container is detected by obtaining each of measured gamma-ray data and measured neutron data from the container, and comparing the measured gamma-ray and neutron data to expected gamma-ray and neutron data. An anomaly between the measured data and the expected data is an indicum of the presence of such material shielding such illegitimate content.
Abstract:
A location system (100) comprises a location determining module (14) adapted to receive a first signal and a second signal. The location determining module (14) is adapted to associate one of the signals with the other signal provided the first and second signals are received within a selected time period of each other.
