Abstract:
A method of producing dispersed of high quality graphene/graphite oxides in a powder matrix to then be reacted to form a composite. Where the powders have similar hydrophobicity and the graphene/graphite oxides has minimal surface oxidation or minimal epoxy group and where the powders are sonically mixed.
Abstract:
An apparatus and computerized method optimizes or generates a sigma profile for a molecule by receiving a sigma profile for the molecule, calculating an activity coefficient for the molecule using the sigma profile for the molecule, calculating a solubility for the molecule using the activity coefficient for the molecule, optimizing or adjusting the sigma profile for the molecule by adjusting the sigma profile using an objective function and one or more constraints, providing the sigma profile to an output device communicably coupled to a processor.
Abstract:
The present invention provides various apparatus and methods for improving, augmenting or enhancing a vision of a person that include a first camera, one or more sensors, a microdisplay, and one or more processors communicably coupled to the first camera, the one or more sensors and the microdisplay. The first camera is configured to acquire a first image of a scene facing away from an eye of the person. The microdisplay is configured to display a modified first image to the eye. In one operational mode, the one or more processors are configured to acquire the first image of the scene using the first camera, modify the first image based on one or more vision improvement parameters, and display the modified first image on the microdisplay to improve, augment or enhance the vision of the person.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of characterizing a cancer by obtaining a sample from a subject suspected of having cancer; and determining whether a fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) fusion is present in the sample, wherein the FGFR fusion comprises a FGFR locus, thereby characterizing the cancer based on the presence or absence of the FGFR fusion.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for the treatment of proliferative disorders including proliferative such as breast, uterine cervical, ophthalmic, and pancreatic cancer by the administration of intravenous synthetic curcumin (S-curcumin) are disclosed herein.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a modified macrophage comprising a monocyte, a primary macrophage, or macrophage cell line transformed to overexpress pigment epithelium-derived factor, a method of a modified macrophage comprising: isolating a monocyte, a primary macrophage, or a macrophage cell line; and transforming the monocyte, primary macrophage, or macrophage cell line with a vector that overexpress pigment epithelium-derived factor and uses thereof, wherein the modified macrophages or monocytes are used to treat kill cancer cells, including metastatic cancer cells.
Abstract:
A computerized method for designing a discrete droplet microfluidic system: (a) provides an initial set of droplet based networks; (b) codes each droplet based network into a data structure such that all the data structures form a current set of data structures; (c) creates new data structures by performing one or more genetic operators on the current set of data structures; (d) adds new data structures to the current set of data structures; (e) creates a new set of data structures that satisfies one or more design parameters; (f) replaces the current set of data structures with the new set of data structures; (g) repeats steps (c), (d), (e) and (f) until the new set of data structures has been created a third number of times; and (h) displays/outputs the current set of data structures as possible designs for the discrete droplet microfluidic system to one or more output devices.
Abstract:
The present invention includes an automated animal euthanization device for the destruction of an animal comprising: a housing having an housing opening to allow access to an interior cavity; a perch having a first perch end that extends into the interior cavity and a second perch end that extends through the housing opening and configured to accommodate the animal; a feed container position about the first perch end to provide food for the animal; an electrode set extending into the housing opening to contact the bird as it is positioned to eat the food; a camera position in the interior cavity to take a target image of the animal; a control unit connected to the camera to receive the target image and compare the target image to a set of reference images; a power supply connected to the control unit, the electrode set, and the camera to provide power for the operation thereof; and a container positioned below the perch to collect the animal falling from the perch.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for converting an aromatic hydrocarbon to a phenol by providing an aromatic hydrocarbon comprising one or more aromatic C-H bonds and one or more activated C-H bonds in a solvent; adding a phthaloyl peroxide to the solvent; converting the phthaloyl peroxide to a di-radical; contacting the di-radical with the one or more aromatic C-H bonds; oxidizing selectively one of the one or more aromatic C-H bonds in preference to the one or more activated C-H bonds; adding a hydroxyl group to the one of the one or more aromatic C-H bonds to form one or more phenols; and purifying the one or more phenols.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for treating, alleviating, reversing or delaying progression of at least one symptom of Parkinson's Disease in a subject in need thereof by administering to the subject an effective amount of a 2-amino-2-[2-(4-octylphenyl)ethyl]propane-l,3-diol composition or a derivative thereof to treat at least one symptom of Parkinson's Disease.
