摘要: Coatings aimed at improving an animal's health and well-being are provided. In particular, the coatings can help the animal manage its exposure to solar radiation, either through increased absorption of solar radiation in cold environmental conditions, or through increased reflectance of solar radiation in hot environmental conditions. In addition, or alternatively, the coatings can be used to deliver fragrances to mask the presence of bullers or protect the animal from infections or insects.

摘要: Methods of preventing or decreasing PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in animal feed, feed ingredients, and pet food are provided. The methods utilize generally safe chemical mitigants, such as medium chain fatty acids, essential oils, and sodium bisulfate. The chemical mitigants are introduced to the feed or feed ingredients at inclusion rates selected so as to prevent or decrease PEDv and/or Salmonella bacteria in the animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet food. The methods are particularly suitable for use in post-processing treatment of animal feed, feed ingredients, or pet food that will be transported and stored for multiple days or weeks.

摘要: Described are nanoparticulates comprising a metallic nanoparticle core and a peptide coating or shell encapsulating the nanoparticle core and being covalently bonded thereto. The coating is formed from a plurality of branched, amphipathic peptides, each comprising a polar/positively charged C-terminal segment, a branch point, and two hydrophobic N-terminal segments extending from the branch point. Methods of forming and using the nanoparticulates are also described. When a plurality of first and second peptides are added sequentially to the nanoparticle core, the peptides they self-assemble to form an interlocking peptide network bilayer where the respective hydrophobic segments of the peptides form beta-sheet structures in which the opposed sequences interlock to form a zipper- like structure in three dimensions.

摘要: The synthesis of layered free-standing papers, films, tapes, and painted coatings. composed of acid-functionalized, few-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) flakes for use as a binder-free conducting electrode in NIB applications are described. The mechanical and electrochemical performance of the layered free-standing papers is also described. Synthesis was achieved through vacuum filtration of highly homogenous dispersions comprising varying weight percentages of exfoliated MoS 2 flakes in graphene oxide in DI water, followed by thermal reduction. The electrochemical behavior of the composite paper was evaluated as a counter electrode against pure Na foil in a half-cell configuration. In addition, the unaxial tensile testing of the composite papers demonstrated their exceptionally high fracture strength.

摘要: Reactant materials for use in the synthesis of compounds comprising a non-metal and hydrogen, and methods of making and using the same are provided. The reactant materials generally comprise first and second non-metals, a cation, and a transition metal, and can be formed and used in reactions occurring at relatively low-pressure conditions using heat energy that can be supplied via solar radiation. In particular, the reactant materials can be used in the synthesis of ammonia and various hydrocarbon compounds using air, water, and sunlight.
