Abstract:
There is described a rearview mirror (1) whose mirror blade (3) can be adjusted in vertical and in horizontal direction, manually as well as by means of electromotors (M1, M2). The direction of the support (4) for attachment to a vehicle can be set, during assembly, in a range of 90 DEG or more. If so desired, the mirror blade (3) can be rotated about an axis perpendicular to the mirror surface. In a preferred embodiment, the rearview mirror comprises measuring members (201, 203; 202, 204) generating an electric signal representative of the set position of the mirror, as a result of which the mirror can be provided with a memory possibility.
Abstract:
An opto-electronic alignment method and apparatus capable of being incorporated into driver and passenger side vehicle exterior sideview mirrors to assist the driver in adjusting the mirrors to minimize the presence of blind spots on the sides of the vehicle. The apparatus having a led (40) fixed in a mirror housing (22) and aimed at the particular vehicle blind spot (30) but is reflected at an angle through a selectively light transmissive mirror region (21) toward the vehicle interior. The sideview mirror alignment is accomplished by the driver using conventional mirror adjustment control assembly (50). When the driver sees the beam of light, the sideview mirror is oriented correctly to reflect objects in the blind spot to the driver's eyes. Positional coordinates of the mirror adjustment may be used to derive the driver's eye position and/or to adjust the passenger's sideview mirror.
Abstract:
A roll angular velocity sensor (20) and an occupant sensor (42, 56.1, 56.2, 60.1, 60.2) are operatively coupled to a processor (26), which provides for detecting a rollover condition responsive to a measure of roll angular velocity and controlling a safety restraint system (30, 30.1, 30.2, 32.1, 32.2, 36.1, 36.2, 38.1, 38.2, 39.1, 39.2, 40.1, 40.2) responsive thereto, wherein a detection criteria associated with the rollover detection process is responsive to a signal from the occupant sensor. In one embodiment, a closure time is estimated from estimates or measurements of occupant velocity or acceleration, and the estimated closure time is compared with a threshold. If the estimated closure time is less than the threshold, activation of the safety restraint system is either inhibited or advanced relative to that otherwise provided by the rollover detection process alone. Otherwise, the activation may be delayed to provide additional time for the rollover detection.
Abstract:
A safety system for an occupant of a vehicle, the safety system including a restraining mechanism and a sensor, wherein the restraining mechanism is movable between a first condition allowing movement of the occupant's head relative to a brace member and a second condition in which the user's head is restrained to the brace member, wherein the restraining mechanism is movable from the first condition to the second condition automatically in response to the sensor sensing a predetermined event. A sensor for a vehicle safety system, including a first member spaced apart from a second member, wherein the sensor is movable from a rest condition in which the first member is spaced from the second member to an activated condition in which the first member contacts the second member in response to a predetermined acceleration of one of the two members relative to the other member.
Abstract:
