Abstract:
Coated Al-Li alloys, such as coated particles of Al-Li alloys, are provided. The coated alloys may be used in solid-rocket propellants. Additionally, methods of making such coated alloys, alloys coated with various methods, and solid-rocket propellants comprising such coated alloys are also provided.
Abstract:
Solid form compositions for deterring birds, methods for making such compositions and methods for deterring birds. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides processes for making solid form bird deterrent compositions comprising a deterrent, which processes comprise combining a carbohydrate source, deterrent and one or more garlic substances, and a filler, to form a mixture and treating the mixture with a metal oxide to form a bird deterrent composition.
Abstract:
Photosensor based on SOI technology and display devices comprising the same. The photosensor can be a photodiode or a phototransistor, or a combination thereof when incorporated in a device. The photosensor exhibits a higher photoresponse than a traditional photosensor based on amorphous silicon film or polysilicon thin film technology. The present invention is useful, e.g., in making multifunctional display devices having photosensing function integrated therein.
Abstract:
A glass manufacturing system (100, 100', 100'') and method are described herein for forming a high quality thin glass sheet (110). In one embodiment, the glass manufacturing system and method use at least one of a compensated rolling roll (108a), a temperature controlled environment (120) and edge rolls (122, 124) to form a high quality thin glass sheet that has a thickness less than about 2mm and more preferably less than about 100 μm.
Abstract:
Multi-quantum well laser structures are provided comprising active and/or passive MQW regions. Each of the MQW regions comprises a plurality of quantum wells and intervening barrier layers. Adjacent MQW regions are separated by a spacer layer that is thicker than the intervening barrier layers. The bandgap of the quantum wells is lower than the bandgap of the intervening barrier layers and the spacer layer. The active region may comprise active and passive MQWs and be configured for electrically-pumped stimulated emission of photons or it may comprises active MQW regions configured for optically-pumped stimulated emission of photons.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to methods of making shaped bodies comprising providing a substantially uniform temperature and gas flow throughout the shaped body as a function of reaction time. The disclosure further relates to methods of making shaped bodies substantially uniformly oxidized. The methods comprise setting at least one shaped body and performing at least one firing of the at least one shaped body. The present disclosure further relates to shaped bodies made according to the methods disclosed.
Abstract:
A flow-through sorbent comprising at least 30 wt% of a metal sulfide, and a binder. The sorbent may be used, for example, for the removal of a contaminant, such as mercury, from a fluid stream.
Abstract:
A method for the removal of an elemental trace contaminant from a fluid stream, which comprises: passing a fluid stream comprising an elemental trace contaminant through a flow-through monolith comprising an oxidation catalyst to oxidize the elemental trace contaminant; and contacting the fluid stream comprising the oxidized trace contaminant with a sorbent free of oxidation catalyst to sorb the oxidized trace contaminant.
Abstract:
Washcoat compositions and methods for the preparation and use thereof. A washcoat composition comprising a soluble washcoat salt species, a polar organic solvent, and an insoluble particulate material is disclosed. Also disclosed is a substrate at least partially coated with the inventive washcoat composition. A method for making a washcoat composition comprising contacting a soluble washcoat salt species, a polar organic solvent, and an insoluble particulate material is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for coating a substrate with a washcoat, the method comprising contacting at least a portion of a substrate with the inventive washcoat composition.
Abstract:
Polymer membranes that include a crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine), which membranes are non-porous or are porous with pores having a median pore size of 300 nm or less. Also disclosed are polymer membranes which include a crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine) and which also include a second polyamine wherein the poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine) and the second polyamine are crosslinked with one another.
