摘要: The present invention relates generally to a prosthetic spinal disc for replacing a damaged disc between two vertebrae of a spine. The present invention also relates to a method for implanting a prosthetic spinal disc via posterior or posterior lateral implantation. Other surgical approaches for implanting the prosthetic disc may also be used. The present invention also involves a method for implanting the prosthetic spinal disc while either avoiding or minimizing contact with the spinal cord and nerve rootlets, or reducing the time and extent that they need to be repositioned during implantation.

摘要: An orthopedic device for implanting between adjacent vertebrae comprising: an arcuate balloon and a hardenable material within said balloon. In some embodiments, the balloon has a footprint that substantially corresponds to a perimeter of a vertebral endplate. An inflatable device is inserted through a cannula into an intervertebral space and oriented so that, upon expansion, a natural angle between vertebrae will be at least partially restored. At least one component selected from that group consisting of a load-bearing component and an osteobiologic component is directed into the inflatable device through a fluid communication means.

摘要: A valve prosthesis device (20) is disclosed suitable for implantation in body ducts. The device comprises a support stent (22), comprised of a deployable construction adapted to be initially crimped in a narrow configuration suitable for catheterization through the body duct to a target location and adapted to be deployed by exerting substantially radial forces from within by means of a deployment device (48) to a deployed state in the target location, and a valve assembly (28) comprising a flexible conduit having an inlet end (24) and an outlet (26), made of pliant material (29) attached to the support beams (23) providing collapsible slack portions of the conduit at the outlet. The support stent is provided with a plurality of longitudinally rigid support beams (23) of fixed length. When flow is allowed to pass through the valve prosthesis device from the inlet to the outlet, the valve assembly is kept in an open position, whereas a reverse flow is prevented as the collapsible slack portions of the valve assembly collapse inwardly providing blockage to the reverse flow.

摘要: The invention relates to a cardiac prosthesis fixing device made up of a tubular element that can be accommodated inside a valve annulus of a heart and is provided with a bottom flange and top flange, between which the valve annulus can be accommodated. According to the invention the bottom flange is bent, or can be bent, reversibly, against a resilient force, from a first outward-pointing position into a second position in which the projection of the bottom flange on a radial transverse surface of the tubular element is located essentially on and/or within the periphery of the tubular element and the bottom flange is fixed or can be fixed in said second position in such a way that the fixing can be released in order to bend back the bottom flange towards the first position under the influence of said resilient force.

摘要: Disclosed are various systems for installing a heart valve within a patient. In a first system, there is provided a heart valve installation assembly (64) and an expandable heart valve ring installation assembly (10), each of which comprises a separate tool. The expandable heart valve ring assembly is provided to position and expand a heart valve ring (12) into engagement with tissue. The valve installation assembly is provided to position and engage the heart valve (70) with the expandable heart valve ring. In a second system, the heart valve installation assemblies and expandable ring installation assemblies are provided on a single tool or instrument (140). Also disclosed are various methods of installing an expandable heart valve ring within a heart and positioning and installing an artificial synthetic heart valve within the expanded heart valve ring.

摘要: The present invention provides a lumen support device (10), or stent, used to open or expand a body lumen. The stent (10) incorporates elongated parallel stent components (23) with circumferential members (20), fingers, which weave into paired slots (30) of an adjacent stent component. This weave-like interlocking configuration enables the stent (10) to expand radially without yielding or plastically deforming the material of which the stent is fabricated. The weave-like mechanism allows for uniform, smooth expansion without change in longitudinal dimensions for the complete assembly. Once assembled, the plurality of parallel elongated stent components form a cylindrical configuration.
