Abstract:
A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support the operation of a Virtual Media Room or Virtual Meeting Room (VMR), wherein each VMR can accept from a plurality of participants at different geographic locations a variety of video conferencing feeds of audio and video streams from video conference endpoints. A globally distributed infrastructure that supports operations of the VMR through a plurality of MCUs (Multipoint Control Unit) built from off-the- shelf components instead of custom hardware as media processing nodes, each configured to process the plurality of audio and video streams from the plurality of video conference endpoints in real time. Each single VMR can be implemented and supported across the infrastructure of globally distributed set of servers/media processing nodes co-located in Points of Presence (POPs) for Internet access, wherein such massively distributed architecture can support thousands of simultaneously active VMRs and yet is transparent to the users of the VMRs.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus of slot time synchronization for coexistence of 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 20 MHz systems in TV white space are provided. The methods and apparatus extend concepts used in traditional 802.11 applications in the MAC layer so that networks that overlap in frequency and space can have access opportunities to TV white space channels. Several passive mechanisms are described which use bits of traditional 802.11 MAC Management Protocol Data Units to receive information related to the slot time of other overlapped networks. An active approach is described that uses measurements from a radio resource measurement service to adjust the slot time of stations in a network to that of the lowest bandwidth overlapped network in frequency and space.
Abstract:
Novel arrangements are detailed involving delivery of entertainment content, and commercial sponsorship of such content. Some arrangements enable viewers to control presentation of advertising in video, e.g., selecting what commercials are to be presented - if any, and also their order and timing. Ad presentation can also be made dependent on context. Other arrangements ensure that advertising is actually rendered, and is not skipped-over. In still other aspects, entertainment content that is now offered on a paid basis is made available for free to certain viewers. For example, viewers may receive free content as a perk for earlier patronage of certain content sponsors. Fees charged to advertisers can be tied to measured consumer responses (e.g., to correlated increases in sales of advertised products), or to the demographics of the responding viewers (e.g., engagement of affluent consumers merits higher fees), A great number of other features and arrangements are also detailed.
Abstract:
A method of decoding closed caption disparity data, involves a TV receiver receiving closed caption disparity data for a 3D display encoded as a sequence of frame interval/slope change pairs, with the frame interval representing a designated number of frames over which each linear function representing disparity is to be applied paired with a value indicating a change in slope from the slope of a preceding segment. A first segment in the sequence presumes a predetermined slope as a reference. A sequence of caption data packets specifies a closed caption display window containing closed caption text. The disparity value is used in each frame to determine a horizontal offset of left and right eye views of the CC display that establishes the closed caption display window's perceived z-axis position. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Abstract:
Systems and methods according to exemplary embodiments provide for overlaying graphics onto a received video content and generating a composite output. The method for overlaying graphics by a first device on top of a video content includes: receiving the video content; overlaying a first graphics on top of the video content; creating a composite output of the video content and the overlaid first graphics; and transmitting the composite output to a television (TV).
Abstract:
A system for an automated surveillance system comprises the use of at least two cameras in which a first camera acts as a view finder and a second camera acts as a zoom wherein a mechanism is provided for controlling the second camera based on the control signals resultant from the processed image produced by the first camera through image processing. Preferably, the first camera is a static camera with wide angle lens and the second camera is a movable zoomed camera.
Abstract:
Embodiments enable mobile multimedia receiver devices to receive emergency alert messages from forward link only broadcast networks. Alert messages may be organized in alert sessions identified by an alert session ID. Alert record information may be included in the overhead information symbol (OIS) channel including the session ID and information enabling a receiver device to obtain an alert data message from an alert session in a multicast logic channel. The alert announcement may also be included in the service flow MLCs as an embedded OIS in a first superframe. The alert record may include the number of alert data packets the alert session so receiving devices can determine when they have received all data packets associated with a particular alert. By storing the alert session identifier in memory, receiving devices can ignore subsequent broadcasts of the same alert, thereby enabling them to conserve battery power.
Abstract:
The present general inventive concept relates to methods and systems to select and display information on an avionics display screen. The systems and methods allow for the selection and display of information using knobs to highlight and select the desired information for display, eliminating the need for a cursor function. The systems and methods also provide for multiple pages and/or multiple windows or "tiles" within these pages and/or windows simultaneously on a single screen of a display, with each window, page, and/or tile being fully controlled independently when selected. The present general inventive concept also relates to systems and methods to provide multiple cues on an electronic display system altitude tape to a pilot in advance and impending approach to a predefined altitude. The present general inventive concept also relates to systems and methods to employ variable resolution topographical data based on display range for an avionics navigation display. The present general inventive concept provides a system and method to use alpha blending properties of a graphics processor to dim the display, effectively darkening it with neutral color overlays, beyond the last hardware dimming step.
