A method of determining the viscosity of an extrudate material in an extrusion system, comprising the steps of (i) acquiring measurements (T, N) of one or more process conditions of the extrusion system, (ii) acquiring indications of throughput of the extrudate material through the extrusion system, (iii) acquiring pressure measurements (Pm) of the extrudate material at one or more locations of the extrusion system, (iv) using a first model (40) to generate an estimated viscosity (?) of the extrudate material using data relating to the material and one of the measurements of the or each process condition, (v) using a second model (42) to generate an estimated pressure (Pe) of the extrudate material using data relating to the extrusion system geometry, the estimated viscosity (?) of the extrudate material and one of the indications of the extrudate material throughput, (vi) comparing the estimated pressure (Pe) of the extrudate material with a pressure measurement (Pm) of the extrudate material to generate a pressure difference value (Pdif), (vii) using the pressure difference value (Pdif) to generate a viscosity correction value, (viii) feeding the viscosity correction value into the first model (40) and using the viscosity correction value in the generation of a next estimated viscosity of the extrudate material, and (ix) repeating steps (iii) to (viii) one or more times, each repetition using another of the measurements of the or each process condition and another of the indications of the extrudate material throughput, wherein the generated pressure difference values are driven towards a minimum value.
Abstract:
Described is a method of modulating the activation of a Rho, Arf, Rab, Ran or Rap family protein, said method comprising administering to said sample a USP-17 modulator, for example an inhibitor of expression or activity of DUB-3. The invention enables the use of USP-17 modulators in the treatment of metastatic cancer and other conditions.
Abstract:
A sulfur-containing acid removal process for deacidifying a crude oil and/or crude oil distillate containing sulfur-containing acids comprising the steps of: (a) contacting the crude oil and/or crude oil distillate containing sulfur-containing acids with a basic ionic liquid having a melting point of below 1500 °C, and extracting at least a portion of the sulfur-containing acids into the basic ionic liquid as an extract phase; and (b) separating a crude oil and/or crude oil distillate phase which is reduced in acidity from the basic ionic liquid extract phase.
Abstract:
Linkers which provide for the attachment of photoswitchable compounds to nucleic acid are provided. These linkers can be used to provide photo-modulatable compounds wherein the chemical and biological properties of polynucleic acid incorporating these photo-modulatable compounds can be modulated by light. Further, methods for modulation of hybridisation of polynucleic acid sequences and binding of factors, for example polymerases to polynucleic acid sequences incorporating said photo-modulatable compounds are provided.
Abstract:
An electricity network fault detection system comprising at least two fault detectors which detect a signal comprising a sferic caused by a fault in the network, and a system processor which receives details of the detected sferic from each of the detectors, and determines the approximate location of generation of the sferic. When a fault occurs in an electricity network, a fault current is generated. These, in conjunction with a part of the network where the fault current has occurred which acts as an antenna, produce electromagnetic radiation in the form of atmospheric radio waves or sferics. It has been realised that these sferics may be used to detect a fault and to determine its approximate location.
