The present invention relates to novel methods of using microporous zirconium silicate to reduce the risk of hyperkalemia and to lower aldosterone levels in the treatment of chronic kidney disease and/or chronic heart disease with therapies comprising diuretics. The invention provides a safe way to reduce the risk of hyperkalemia and to lower aldosterone. The invention also relates to treatment of other conditions that can occur either alone or in connection with hyperkalemia, chronic kidney disease, and/or chronic heart disease.

The present invention relates to metal-organic frameworks and, in particular, a continuous flow process for synthesising a metal-organic framework comprising the steps of: providing a ligand and a metal salt which are suitable for forming a metal-organic framework, mixing the ligand and metal salt with a solvent to form a mixture, and providing the mixture at a temperature sufficient to cause the ligand and the metal salt to react to form a metal-organic framework. The invention also relates to a method for the treatment of a metal-organic framework to extract unreacted ligand from the metal organic framework, a method for synthesising a metal-organic framework using recycled unreacted ligand, and uses for metal-organic frameworks.

In a process for synthesizing a crystalline molecular sieve, an aqueous synthesis mixture is produced capable of forming the crystalline molecular sieve. Crystallization of the synthesis mixture is induced so as to form crystals of said molecular sieve in the synthesis mixture and, when crystallization is complete, the molecular sieve crystals are allowed or caused to separate from the remainder of the synthesis mixture to produce a solid phase comprising said molecular sieve crystals and a supernatant liquid phase. The supernatant liquid phase is then decanted from the solid phase to recover the molecular sieve crystals and the crystals are dried without initially being subjected to washing or filtration.

The invention relates to a mesoporous silica materials which are composed of hollow silica particles, the said particles have wall in which pore canals substantively radial arrange. The invention also relates to a method for preparing the mesoporous materials above mentioned, in which calcium carbonate having different configuration is used as inorganic template, on the surface of which the mesoporous materials are grown, then the inorganic template is eliminated, therefor thin shell-type mesoporous materials having different configuration are obtained.
