Abstract:
A shaft seal assembly for sealing along a rotor shaft is provided. The shaft seal assembly includes a seal housing, annular inner and outer seal members, an annular middle element, and an end plate. The seal housing has a seal member bore and a shaft bore. The annular inner and outer seal members are configured to be disposed in the seal member bore. The middle element is disposed between the inner seal member and the outer seal member within the seal member bore. The end plate is attached to the seal housing and covers a portion of the seal member bore. The middle element biases the inner seal member against the seal housing and biases the outer seal member against the end plate.
Abstract:
An O-ring balance shift mechanism (12) is provided in a dry lift-off face mechanical seal (10) to maintain necessary hydraulic closing forces on the seal faces when pressurized from either the inside or outside diameter of the balance shift mechanism to shift the diameter balance of the seal rings radially under reversed pressure conditions. This mechanism includes a shift ring (80) with two O-rings (17, 39) wherein the shift ring is H-shaped or S-shaped in two alternate embodiments. The O-rings are radially spaced from each other and move axially with the shift ring during reverse pressure conditions.
Abstract:
A seal gas delivery system for an end seal on a turbo machine rotor shaft includes a seal gas passageway (122) for delivering a seal gas to the end seal and a seal gas distributor (140) for receiving at least a portion of the seal gas from the seal gas passageway (122), the seal gas distributor (140) having a plurality of holes (160) for distributing the seal gas about the rotor shaft (120) during turbo machine standstill; the holes are located on a cylindrical surface and are typically arranged all around said rotor shaft, preferably regularly all around said rotor shaft.
Abstract:
A dry gas seal leakage recovery system (14) is provided which collects seal leakage gas from one or more mechanical seal assemblies (24,25), pressurizing and controlling the outlet distribution pressure of the collected seal leakage, and re-injecting the gas back into the compressor (16) or seal supply system.
Abstract:
It has been determined that sealant fluid formulations comprising a lubricant oil derived from Fischer-Tropsch waxes demonstrate performance comparable to sealant fluid comprising lubricants derived from polyalphaolefins(PAO's). The sealant fluids of the current invention can provide excellent performance properties similar to those provided by PAO based sealant fluids, but at lower cost.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a slide ring seal, especially a slide ring seal for a housing, comprising a counter-ring that can be connected to a rotary shaft in a fixed and sealed manner, and two slide rings between which the counter-ring is coaxially arranged, said rings being provided with slide surfaces such that the rings can rotate in relation to each other in a sealed manner. At least one channel (12) extending especially in the radial direction is arranged in the counter-ring (10), one opening of said channel being oriented towards the shaft (W) and the other opening being fluidically connected to a retaining chamber. The invention also relates to a slide ring seal comprising a counter-ring that can be connected to a rotary shaft in a fixed and sealed manner, and two slide rings between which the counter-ring is coaxially arranged, said rings being provided with slide surfaces such that the rings can rotate in relation to each other in a sealed manner. The counter-ring and the slide rings are covered by an annular housing which is coaxially arranged in relation to the rings, the rotation of said housing in relation to the rings being prevented by a locking element. Said locking element comprises at least one rod (14) on which an abutment element (17) comprising an abutment surface is rotatably arranged, the abutment surface co-operating with a flat counter-abutment (18).
