    Abstract: An article (20) of a base metal alloyed with an alloying element is prepared by mixing a chemically reducible nonmetallic base-metal precursor compound of a base metal and a chemically reducible nonmetallic alloying-element precursor compound of an alloying element to form a compound mixture. The alloying element is preferably thermophysically melt incompatible with the base metal. The method further includes chemically reducing the compound mixture to a metallic alloy, without melting the metallic alloy, and thereafter consolidating the metallic alloy to produce a consolidated metallic article (20), without melting the metallic alloy and without melting the consolidated metallic article (20).

    Abstract: Disclosed is a spiral wound membrane element (10) that provides two permeate streams through a permeate carrier sheet (20). The spiral wound membrane element (10) is sealed such that the only communication with the permeate carrier (20) is through a membrane sleeve (12). The first permeate stream flows spirally inward and the second permeate stream flows in the opposite direction, spirally outward. The permeate carrier sheet (20) is sealed at two edges so that the permeate streams can only discharge from opposite, unsealed edges of the permeate carrier sheet (20). The first permeate stream may be collected in a central collection tube (16) and the second permeate stream may be collected in a peripheral region of the membrane element (10).

    Abstract: A parallel hybrid vehicle includes a heat engine, a transmission including an input and an output, and an electrical device.
