Chiral ligands and transition metal complexes based on such chiral ligands useful in asymmetric catalysis are disclosed. The chiral ligands include chiral C1-C6 TunaPhos ligands. The ruthenium TunaPhos complex reduces ketones to the corresponding alcohols with 95-99.6 % enantioselectivity. The transition metal complexes of the chiral ligands are useful in asymmetric reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation, hydride transfer, hydrosilylation, hydroboration, hydrovinylation, hydroformylation, hydrocarboxylation, isomerization, allylic alkylation, cyclopropanation, Diels-Alder reaction, Heck reaction, isomerization, Aldol reaction, Michael addition and epoxidation reactions.

A polyhydroxyl/phosphate polymer comprising a polyhydroxy moiety and a phosphorous moiety. This polymer is of general structure (I) wherein: each Z is independently selected from the group consisting of H, a, b, c and d; each Q is independently selected from the group consisting of e, and M; each X is independently selectected from the group consisting of M, and f; each M is independently selected from the group consisting of H, Na, K, -OCH2CH2SO3Na, -OCH2CH2N(CH3)3Cl and NH4 ; each R is independently selected from the group consisting of C2 to C22 alkyl alcohol. In this polymer at least about 10 %, by weight of the polyhydroxyl/phosphate polymer is phosphorous, at least about 1 %, by weight of the polyhydroxyl/phosphate polymer is carbon. Further the polyhydroxyl/phosphate polymer has an average molecular weight of at least about 600. Detergent and oral care compositions having these polyhydroxyl/phosphate polymers are also disclosed.

Methods have been developed top roduce phosphazene modified organic or siloxane polymers. The method includes: (a) providing an organic or siloxane polymer comprising phosphine units; and (b) reacting the organic or siloxane polymer with a phosphazene azide compound under conditions wherein the phosphazene azide compound is bound to the phosphine units in the polymer, thereby producing the phosphazene-modified organic or siloxane polymer. The organic polymer of step (a) is produced by reacting a first monomer comprising phosphine with a second monomer via free radical or anionic polymerization techniques to produce the organic polymer comprising phosphine units. The first and second monomers can be identical. A wide variety of organic polymer backbones can be modified using these techniques. The second monomer, for example, can be selected from monomers forming polyolefins, polydienes, polyacrylics, polyethylenes, polyvinyl chlorides, polyisoprenes, polystyrenes, polycaprolactam, poly(methyl)(meth)acrylates, and polypropylenes. Alternatively, the siloxane polymer of step (a) is produced by reacting a monomer comprising phosphine with a hydrosilicone polymer via hydrosilylation polymerization techniques to produce the siloxane polymer comprising phosphine units. These phosphazene modified organic and siloxane polymers are useful in a variety of applications, particularly as a fire retardant material.

Novel polymers are provided having phosphonated and sulphonated substituent groups such that the polymer is multifunctional in its use. Optional amide substituents are used to reduce electrostatic charge density or for hydrogen bonding. An advantage of the polymer is the flexibility of using it for multiple purposes. A particular application is for bonding paper fillers and paper fiber together.

This invention provides a novel phosphatized polymeric product which is formed by: (a) forming an amine-extended resinous composition having unreacted epoxy groups by mixing, under free-radical initiated polymerization conditions, a polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated monomeric component and a polyepoxide component; and (b) phosphatizing at least a portion of the unreacted epoxy groups of the resinous composition. The present invention also provides novel coating compositions containing the aforedescribed polymeric product. While these novel coating compositions have a number of different uses, they are particularly useful for application to metal substrates such as can end stock since they result in a cured film which has excellent performance properties such as flexibility and extensibility, adhesion, resistance to boiling liquid pack tests and boiling water taste test results.

The invention relates to sorption agents for affinity chromatography on the basis of base carriers containing hydroxyl groups, polymers being covalent-bonded on the surfaces of said base carriers. According to the invention, the base carrier contains aliphatic hydroxyl groups, the covalent-bonded polymers are bonded to the base carrier via a terminal monomer unit, the monomer units are bonded linearly, and the polymers contain monomer units of formula (I) wherein R , R and R independently mean H or CH3, R means H, C1-C5 alkyl or C6-C12 aryl, n is a whole number between 1 and 5, and one of the radicals X is OH and the other radical Y is a radical containing nucleoside bonded via an alkylene radical. The invention also relates to the production and the use of the inventive sorption agents.

The high-purity polymer is selected from a group consisting of acrylic acid polymer, methacrylic acid polymer, acrylate polymer, methacrylate polymer, copolymers, and terpolymers, acrylate/acrylamide copolymer, acrylate/methacrylate copolymer, terpolymers, and mixtures thereof. Methods of making and applying the polymer dispersant and sludge conditioner are described. Means for removing the metal oxides and polymer from the blowdown stream are disclosed.

A method of making a (meth)acrylate copolymer having pendent phosphate-containing groups and a pressure-sensitive adhesive that contains the (meth)acrylate copolymer having pendent phosphate-containing groups are provided. The method includes reacting a precursor (meth)acrylate copolymer having pendent carboxylic acid groups with an epoxy-functionalized phosphate compound. The pendent phosphate-containing groups on the reaction product can function as a flame retardant for the pressure-sensitive adhesive.
