Abstract:
A water marked image frame for conveying a payload data word is generated by combining at least one image frame with a two-dimensional water mark pattern. Comprising a plurality of regions, each including a two dimensional water mark block selected from a predetermined set of possible water mark blocks to represent the value of the associated payload data symbol. The payload data is detected by correlating each region of the water marked image frame with each block from of the set of water marked blocks, to form for each region a set of probability surfaces, each of which is combined with a distortion probability value for each region and for each of the water mark blocks which may be present in the region thus forming for each region, for each of the possible values of the payload symbol a probability value that that region includes that symbol value and therefrom generating an estimate of the payload data.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for embedding and associating triggers within a promotion or other similar content element with the event being promoted are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, consumer premises equipment (CPE) such as a digital set-top box is used to interface between the user and an external network (such as an HFC cable network) and facilitate the user selecting and scheduling viewing or recording of a subsequent event (e.g., broadcast movie) via the promotion itself. The trigger(s) within the promotion allow the user to contemporaneously select the promoted event for viewing, recording, etc. without any further action. The trigger(s) then initiates tuning of the user's receiver to the scheduled event at the appropriate date and time. This approach obviates additional actions by the user (such as programming their DVR), and also permits the user to commit to viewing the event when their interest level is highest; i.e., contemporaneous with the promotion.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus (200) for embedding a watermark in an information signal bit-stream are described. The method comprises receiving a portion of an information signal bit-stream (MPEG2). A first copy of the received portion is stored in a first buffer (220). A second copy of the received portion is watermarked, and the resulting watermarked signal stored in a second buffer (240). At predetermined intervals, a check is performed to determine if the bit-rate of the received portion has been changed by being watermarked. If the check determines the bit-rate has changed, the first copy of the received portion from the first buffer is output. Otherwise the watermarked signal from the second buffer is output.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for delivering multimedia content for public presentation is disclosed. An exemplary system includes a distribution entity transmitting content data to at least one user system for receiving the transmitted content data and presenting for exhibition and a network operation center for coordinating encryption of the transmitted content data at the distribution entity and decryption of the transmitted content data at the user system. The content data is transmitted using one or more bandwidth efficient modulation (BEM) techniques selected from the group comprising forward error control coding, pulse shaping, adaptive receive equalization, nonlinear predistortion and linear predistortion.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards methods, devices and a signal format for providing information for achieving better perceived image quality of a transmitted video data stream. A video and information transmitting unit (28) in a device (20) transmits a video data stream and information about subjective quality relating to the video data stream in a signal comprising at least one frame with a header section, a motion vector section and a compressed image section. A device for processing a video data stream (32) includes a video and information receiving unit (34) which receives the signal, a decoding unit (38), which decodes the video data stream, and a control unit (36), which controls use of the information about subjective quality when processing the video data stream in order to achieve better perceived image quality.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A transform domain watermarking technique which is based on a new encoding scheme referred to as scaled bin encoding which encodes a message in a set of transform coefficients by modifying their values in a way that preserves high image quality (i.e., low distortion levels) and adapts to expected noise level. Recapturing of the watermark image is performed via a decoding method using a maximum likelihood procedure (i.e., maximum likelihood decoding, based on the statistics of the transform coefficients and a worst case statistical model of the noise introduced to these coefficients by image processing operations or attack noise.
Abstract:
A distribution server distributes A/V content to a recipient according to terms determined from information stored in a database of prior unauthorized copying attributed to that recipient. The copy distributed to the recipient includes identifications of the content and recipient embedded in it by an ID embedder employing a steganographic or watermarking technique. A detection server detects embedded ID's in A/V content sampled from various distribution channels, and provides the ID information to the distribution server to update the database of prior unauthorized copying.
Abstract:
A system, method, and apparatus for watermarking multimedia content with reduced reference information for perceptual quality of service measurements. The system and method allow the perceived quality of multimedia content to be measured in-service. The system, method, and apparatus achieve these advantages by creating the reference information from the original content and embedding the reference information as a watermark in the original content so that the perceptibility of the reference information to a user is minimized. The original content with the embedded reference information is transmitted to a receiving device where the watermark is extracted from the received signal, and the reference information contained therein is used to determine the perceptual quality of the signal.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a watermark embedding method and to transcoding and digital recording apparatus including a facility for watermark embedding. A first embodiment incorporates a watermark embedding system with a cascaded decoder/encoder transcoder of the type commonly found in digital recording apparatuses. An input data stream in a first format is received by a decoder (10) of the transcoder. Coding parameters are fed from a first output of the decoder (10) to a first input of an encoder (30) of the transcoder. A second output of the decoder (10) comprises a baseband video signal which is passed to a first input of an adder (24). An output of a watermark generator (22) is fed to a second input of the adder (24). An output of the adder (24) is fed to a second input of the encoder 30. The output of the encoder (30) comprises the information to be recorded in a second format which is compatible with a storage medium.
