L'invention concerne le domaine des techniques cryogéniques, et en particulier un procédé de mise en froid d'un dispositif (3) relié à un réservoir cryogénique (2) à travers un conduit principal d'admission (4) pour l'alimentation du dispositif (3) en fluide cryogénique après la mise en froid. Pendant la mise en froid, par contre, un fluide cryogénique est introduit dans le dispositif (3) à travers un conduit d'admission pour mise en froid (10) qui est différent du conduit principal d'admission (4) et présente une section d'écoulement plus étroite que le conduit principal d'admission (4).

An impingement plate atomizer apparatus includes a longitudinal member having an upper surface sized and shaped to receive a liquid cryogen thereon, a lower surface opposite to the upper surface, and at least one hole extending through the longitudinal member; and an ultrasonic transducer in contact with the longitudinal member for providing ultrasonic energy thereto for atomizing the liquid cryogen at the upper surface into a cryogen fog.

A cooling system (1), especially for cryopreserving biological samples (2), comprises a cooling chamber (100) delimited by a bottom area (110), side walls (120), and a top area (130), and a cooling device (200) for cooling the cooling chamber (100) using liquid nitrogen (220). The bottom area (110) is designed for direct cooling using the liquid nitrogen, and the cooling chamber (100) is dimensioned such that an operator (3) can access and move around in the cooling chamber (100). The bottom area (110) has a platform (111) which is permeable to vapor of the liquid nitrogen (220) and forms a support zone for the operator (3). Methods for operating the cooling system are also described.

An ultra-rapid freezing device (100) adapted for cooling a sample (1), comprises a substrate chip (10) being adapted for cooling the sample (1), and at least one sample carrier (20) being adapted for accommodating the sample (1) and comprising at least one heatable support (21), through which the at least one sample carrier (20) is attached to the substrate chip (10). Preferably, the at least one sample carrier (20) is attached to the substrate chip (10) in a suspended manner. Furthermore, a method of ultra-rapid freezing a sample (1) is described. The at least one sample carrier (20) can be switched between a heated state at which a thermal gradient is formed relative to the substrate chip (10) and a cooled state at which a thermal equilibrium is formed relative to the substrate chip (10).
