Abstract:
An optical ferrule (200) includes a top major surface (10) and a bottom major surface (70) opposite the top major surface (10). The top major surface (10) has an attachment portion (20) for receiving and securing a plurality of optical waveguides (30). A light redirecting portion (60) receives along a first direction (51) the central light ray (50) transmitted by the optical waveguides (30) and redirecting the received central light ray (53) along a different second direction (52). When the optical ferrule (200) mates with a mating optical ferrule (300), the bottom major surface (70) makes physical contact or near physical contact with a corresponding surface of the mating optical ferrule (300) to define a contact or near contact interface (71) therebetween. An average gap defined between the optical ferrule (200) and the mating optical ferrule (300) in the near contact interface (71) is less than about 3 microns. The redirected central light ray (53) exits the optical ferrule (200) and enters the mating optical ferrule (300) through the contact or near contact interface (71).

An optical assembly includes a hermaphroditic cassette comprising a hood that includes a narrower section and a wider section. The narrower and wider sections are separated by slots such that the narrower section fits at least partially within a wider section of an identical mating hood of a mating optical assembly and the wider section receives a narrower section of the mating hood. The hood has first and second stop features configured to engage with second and first stop features of the mating hood. The first stop feature comprises a mating end of the narrower section of the hood and the second stop feature comprises a stop surface disposed within the wider section of the hood. Engagement of the stop features of the hood with stop features of the mating hood is configured to stop relative translational movement of the hood and the mating hood along the mating axis during mating.
Abstract:
A connector has a first magnetic member proximate an opening of the connector. A door of the connector has a gate with a peripheral shape conforming to a shape of an opening of the connector. A pivot of the door rotatably engages with the at least one pivot attachment of the housing on a pivot axis that extends across the gate. A protrusion of the door extends from the pivot axis away from the gate. The protrusion includes a second magnetic member. The first and second magnetic members cause the gate to block the opening in an unmated configuration of the connector.

A retroreflective system is disclosed that includes a retroreflective sheet for retroreflecting light, and a light control film disposed on the retroreflective sheet. For a first wavelength, light incident on the light control film at each of a first and second angles of incidence is retroreflected. For a second wavelength, light incident on the light control film at the first, but not the second, angle of incidence is retroreflected.
Abstract:
An electrical connector provides electrical connection between first, second, and third printed circuit boards (PCBs). The connector defines spaced apart substantially parallel, first, second and third mating slots and includes a plurality of pairs of first terminals and a plurality of pairs of second terminals. For each pair of first terminals: the first terminals are electrically connected to each other; one of the first terminals is disposed in the first mating slot; and the other of the first terminals is disposed in the third mating slot. For each pair of second terminals: the second terminals are electrically isolated from each other; one of the second terminals is disposed in the second mating slot; and the other of the second terminals is disposed in the third mating slot. When first, second and third PCBs are received in the respective first, second and third mating slots, each pair of first terminals electrically connects corresponding traces of the first and third PCBs and each pair of second terminals electrically connects corresponding traces of the second and third PCBs.
