Abstract:
A high throughput method for screening for enzymes having activity on insoluble substrates includes grinding the substrates to form a powder or particulate substrate which may be filtered to form a uniform sample that may be aliquoted into conventional multiple assay plates or tubes.
Abstract:
The present invention provides highly impact-resistant, water-soluble or water dispersible, low-dust granules comprising an active ingredient and methods for obtaining the same.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and composition related to lipid layers with increased stability to oxidative degradation. In one embodiment, the invention provides lipid layers comprising antioxidant inclusion molecules that permit biosensors with increased performance and functional lifetime due to increased oxidative protection. In addition to these lipid-layer compositions, the present invention provides methods for further protection of lipid layers from oxidation. These methods include application of solutions and coatings comprising barrier compounds (e.g., trehalose), storage under anaerobic conditions (e.g., with inert gases), storage with oxidant scavengers (e.g., dessicants and catalysts), and packaging with barrier materials (e.g., mylar, polyethylene) that prevent oxidant exposure.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an enzyme-containing sol-gel composition wherein one or more enzymes are stably entrapped within the gels and are released from the gels in responsive to an increase in environmental water percentage (by weight). The enzyme-containing sol-gels are prepared from starting materials comprising one or more aminoalkylsilane precursors such as bis(trialkoxyalkylsilane)amine, bis(trialkoxyalkylsilane)alkylenediamine, bis(dialkyldialkoxysilane)amine, and aminoalkyltrialkoxysilane, and one or more alkoxysilane precursors such as dialkyldialkoxysilane and alkyltrialkoxysilane. The present invention further provides a liquid detergent, a liquid soap or a shampoo formulation comprising an enzyme-entrapped sol-gel system, wherein the enzymes are released upon dilution of the formulation in water. The silica gel matrices not only improve the thermal stability of enzymes but also prevent the enzyme denaturation due to proteolysis/autolysis or interference from other components of the formulation.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to topical preparations for release of an active agent and to methods of making and using the topical preparations. The preparations may have an internal phase dispersed within an external phase. The internal phase may be a hydrophilic carrier and an active agent. The external phase may be a silicone matrix. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that is will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.
Abstract:
The invention provides small enzyme-containing granules having an inorganic salt core and an enzyme-containing layer coated over the core, and methods for producing such granules. The majority of the enzyme granules are less than 300 μm in diameter. The granules are suitable for incorporation into compositions such as cleaning, textile processing, and animal feed compositions.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a mechanically robust, water-soluble or water dispersible, low-dust granule comprising an active ingredient, a polymer coating, and an impregnated plasticizer within the granule, and methods for obtaining the same.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and devices for measuring granule impact strength and granule attrition rates by vibrating a small container of granules at a well-controlled amplitude in order to inflict reproducible damage to the granules. Damage to the granules is measured as a function of time and amplitude and attrition rates are measured in terms of dust generate per number of collisions versus mass of the granules. The measurements obtained yield a highly reproducible means for characterizing granule attrition, attrition rates, and fragmentation.
