Abstract:
The detection of residues of antibacterials such as antibiotics and sulpha compounds in liquids such as milk, water, meat juice, serum or urine is disclosed. A test unit comprises an agar medium inoculated with a suitable test organism and two or more redox indicators.
Abstract:
New PB92 or Subtilisin 309 mutant serine proteases are provided having specific mutations, resulting in a surprisingly better wash performance or in an improved storage stability with at similar or even better wash performance. These PB92 or Subtilisin 309 mutants include mutations at positions 60, 87, 97, 99, 102, 116, 117, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, 134, 154, 156, 158, 159, 160, 164, 169, 175, 180, 182, 193, 197, 198, 203, 211, and 216. The new proteases, therefore, are very suitable for use in various types of detergents, whether or not in conjunction with other enzymes, for example amylases, cellulases and lipases. Preferred embodiments are the PB92 and Subtilisin 309 mutants having a mutation at position 102 and in particular those having at least one further mutation.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses intersexual heterozygous Phycomyces strains. These strains show an improved beta -carotene productivity and an increased stability when compared with both the wild type and heterokaryotic Phycomyces strains. The present invention also disclosed a method for obtaining Phycomyces transformants without using selection markers. Furthermore, a process is provided for producing beta -carotene comprising the use of intersexual heterozygous Phycomyces strains in a submerged culture.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a bacteriocin obtainable from Pediococcus cerevisiae P18. Said bacteriocin is composed of proteinaceous material and has a broad range of activity against Listeria monocytogenes. The bacteriocin is inactive against the tested starter and surface culture strains. The invention further provides a method for obtaining the bacteriocin. Finally, the use of the bacteriocin is illustrated.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a method for obtaining feed pellets. The method comprises the addition of active ingredients to feed pellets after the pellets have been extruded. The method further comprises the addition of a solution or suspension of the desired feed or ingredient in a water or oil phase to the pellets under reduced pressure and subsequently increasing the pressure. The method results in pellets with a high degree of loading and in which the active ingredients are homogeneously distributed.
Abstract:
A transformant selection system has been developed, particularly for a β-lactam producing strain, more particularly for P. chrysogenum, by the complementation of a mutation of said β-lactam producing strain by a homologous selection marker without interfering with β-lactam biosynthesis. Particularly, in applying said transformant selection system a positive selection agent, for instance fluoroacetate is used for the isolation of fac mutants of said strain, particularly of said β-lactam producing strain. Furthermore, a gene entitled facA has been isolated from P. chrysogenum.
Abstract:
The subject invention describes the cloning and overexpression of leader peptidase genes. A method for isolating a leader peptidase gene is disclosed. Overexpression of the signal peptidase in a suitable host species leads to an enhanced rate of protein processing.
Abstract:
Thermostable and acid stable α-amylases are provided as expression products of genetically engineered α-amylase genes isolated from microorganisms, preferably belonging to the class of Bacilli. Both chemical and enzymatic mutagenesis methods are e.g. the bisulphite method and enzymatic misincorporation on gapped heteroduplex DNA. The mutant α-amylases have superior properties, e.g. improved thermostability over a broad pH range, for industrial application in starch processing and textile desizing.
Abstract:
Novel methods and novel industrial unicellular microorganism strains, particularly industrial Bacillus strains, are provided for enhanced production of endogenous and exogenous polypeptides. Cloning vehicles containing one or more copies of the gene expressing the polypeptide of interest are introduced into a compatible host, the transformed hosts treated to form protoplasts and then fused with protoplast acceptors prepared from industrial strains. Efficient transfer of the vehicle containing the genes of interest is achieved, with the resulting modified industrial strains being effective producers of the desired polypeptide product.
