A method of making α,ω-diiodoperfluoroalkanes includes combining: diatomic iodine, at least one perfluoroalkylene oxide represented by the formula wherein R f represents a perfluoroalkyl group; and at least one of: a) a first metallic compound comprising nickel, and a second metallic compound comprising molybdenum that is compositionally different from the first metallic compound; or b) a metallic alloy comprising from 50 to 70 percent by weight of nickel and from 20 to 40 percent by weight of molybdenum, based on the total weight of the metallic alloy, thereby producing at least one product represented by the formula I(CF 2 ) n I, wherein n independently represents an integer in the range of from 1 to 11. The total weight of the at least one product wherein n is 3 or greater exceeds the total weight of the at least one product wherein n is 1 or 2 by a factor of at least 4.

Further provided are fluoroelastomer compositions having a glass transition temperature of less than -40°C and shaped articles comprising fluoroelastomers having glass transition temperatures of less than -40°C obtained by curing the curable compositions. Also described are methods of making fluoroelastomer compositions having glass transition temperatures of less than -40°C.

A folding chair (2) includes a back portion (6) and a seat portion (4). The seat portion folds downward to engage the seat portion, and the seat portion may then be pivoted upward to a storage position. When the seat is in the operating position, a brace (18) extends from a mounting bracket (12) to the bottom of the seat portion. That brace connects to a pivoting link that allows the total length of the brace and link to increase when the seat is pivoted upward. Latches (32, 34) are provided to secure the pivoting link in selected positions to hold the seat in the operational or storage positions.
