A fiberboard panel is formed from at least one corrugated sheet of molded cellulose fiber material having alternating ribs and grooves. Spaced slits are cut through the ribs on one face of the sheet and terminate short of the opposite face so as to form at least one slotted portion of more flexibility which may be bent to form a curve. The corrugated sheet is sandwiched between two flat sheets of the same material to form a composite panel. The corrugated sheet or panel is formed by a wet processing method including successive cold and hot press steps in which a wet mat is pressed between an opposing perforated platen and non-perforated, elastomeric material platen of cross-sectional shape substantially matching the desired panel shape and dimensions.

Many proteins, when produced recombinantly, suffer from improper processing, folding and lack normal solubility. Modified proteins, including those indicative of disease states, also can have such defects. The present invention is directed to methods of identifying proper and improper protein folding, aberrant processing and/or insolubility. The method relies on the use of two components: a specialized fusion protein and structural complementation. The fusion protein contains sequences from the protein of interest and one portion of a marker protein that, by itself, is not active. A host cell then provides the remainder of the marker protein that serves to 'complement' the function of the fused marker protein such that their association restores activity, permitting detection.

Disclosed is a device for determination of the content of higher oxides of nitrogen in exhaled breath condensate which comprises a conduit (7) having an exhaling condensing portion with an inlet and an outlet (the inlet can be configured to fit with a mechanical respirator, or for direct use by a patient, an inlet assembly providing one-way ingress (2) of ambient atmosphere so the device can be associated with the inlet of the conduit exhaling condensing portion); a coolant jacket (6) coaxially surrounding said exhaling condensing portion; a gas release port; and, in an enclosed fluid communication with said conduit exhaling condensing portion outlet, a sample assay assembly (9) comprising the following: (a) a translucent analysis chamber attached to the outlet to receive condensate fluid and having a reagent port; (b) a reagent chamber in enclosed fluid communication with the reagent entry port; and (c) a pliable element connecting the oulet and the analysis chamber and forming a portion of the reagent chamber such that flexion of the pliable element closes communication between the oulet and the analysis chamber and contracts the reagent chamber so as to deliver to the analysis chamber controlled amounts of condensate and reagent. The device is disposable and inexpensive, and is used to collect human exhaling for colorimetric assay of liquid and gas phase nitrogen oxides to assist in evaluation of airway inflammation.

A first cut on a top surface and a second cut on a bottom surface of the fiberboard material are calculated. These calculations are based, at least in part, on the structural requirements properties of the fiberboard material. The first cut and the second cut each have a depth, a width, and a position. The first cut and the second cut have a spacing between them such that the flat piece of fiberboard material can be folded at a point located in the spacing between the first cut and second cut to position a first portion of the fiberboard material at a particular angle with respect to a second portion of the fiberboard material.

The method may also include, before the testing step, standardizing the volatile substances that may be present in the condensate in a degassing or gas standardizing step. The device (10) includes a mouthpiece apparatus (20) for receiving a subject's breath, a condensation apparatus (60) to condense the subject's breath and produce a condensate, and a collection apparatus (100) having a collection chamber (102) containing means (116) for testing the condensate to determine the acetic acid or acetate concentration. The device may also include a system (150) for removing or standardizing the volatile substances that may be present with the condensate.
