Abstract:
A system (30) for selectively triggering an energy activated therapy agent. The system includes a member to which a device (172) for emitting energy is attached. One or more navigation markers (166) are also attached to the member. The position of the navigation markers is tracked to provide an indication of the position of the energy emitting device relative to the target tissue. When the energy emitting device is adjacent the target tissue, it is actuated.
Abstract:
A system (10) for forming an implant (M) to stabilize an interior of a vertebral body (12) is provided. The system (10) includes a delivery cannula (18). A plurality of elements (20) are disposed adjacent to one another in the delivery cannula (18) with void spaces (63) defined between the elements (20). A fluent material (22), capable of setting to a hardened condition, is disposed within at least a portion of the void space (63) in the delivery cannula (18). A push rod (24) is movably disposed within the delivery cannula (18) to apply a force to move the elements (20) through the delivery cannula (18) and into the interior of the vertebral body (12). Upon application of the force, the elements (20) simultaneously carry the fluent material (22) through the delivery cannula (18) and into vertebral body (12) to delivery the fluent material (22) at a low pressure. The fluent material (22) sets to the hardened condition to secure the elements (20) and form the implant (M).
Abstract:
A personal protection system is mountable to a user for distributing air to the user includes a shell providing structure. A fan module is supported by the shell for generating a flow of air. Cushioning is provided between the fan module and the shell to reduce vibrations and noise. The fan module includes a fan with blades having an airfoil shape for added noise reduction. An air flow channel is in fluid communication with the fan module for routing the flow of air. A pair of nozzle tips are in fluid communication with the air flow channel and are rotatably adjustable to allow directional adjustment of the flow of air toward a neck of the user. The personal protection system also includes a face shield with multiple removable layers which are sterilized as a unit using gamma radiation.
Abstract:
A manifold and filter assembly for use with a waste collection unit is provided. The manifold and filter assembly directs and filters medical waste flowing into the waste collection unit. The manifold and filter assembly comprises a manifold body defining a chamber and an outlet (19) for directing the medical waste into the waste collection unit. A manifold cap (46) is fitted to the manifold body to close the chamber. The manifold cap defines a plurality of inlets (48) for receiving the medical waste. A filter basket (20) having a bottom and a peripheral wall (30) defining a plurality of openings (42) is snap-locked to the manifold body. The filter basket (20) is positioned such that a fluid bypass (28) is formed between the filter basket (20) and the manifold body and between the filter basket (20) and the manifold cap (46). The fluid bypass (28) is in fluid communication with the outlet whereby the medical waste can flow over the peripheral wall (30) to the outlet (19) through the fluid bypass.
Abstract:
A bone cement mixing and delivery system is provided. The system includes a mixing cartridge (100) for receiving liquid and powder components of bone cement, a mixing device for mixing the components, and a delivery gun (500) for discharging the bone cement from the mixing cartridge. A bone cement loading system is provided to load the components in the mixing cartridge, while a rotary power tool (177) or a mixing handle can be selectively, interchangeably, and operatively connected to the mixing device to mix the components once loaded. A converter can also be used to convert rotational input from the rotary power tool into rotational and axial output to simplify mixing of the components. After mixing, the cartridge is placed in the delivery gun. The delivery gun comprises a drive rod having a plurality of teeth (780). At least one pawl member (786, 788) engages the teeth the advance the drive rod and discharge the bone cement from the cartridge.
Abstract:
A solid medical waste collection system for collecting solid medical waste. The system comprise a mobile cart with a bag for storing the waste. A pre-detection apparatus detects metal-containing objects prior to placing them inside the bag to reduce costs to the facility in which the cart is employed. The system may also include a bag-tensioning mechanism for securing the bag to the cart.
Abstract:
A medical /surgical irrigator (30) with a handpiece (32) for discharging a lavage solution. There is reservoir in which a therapeutic agent is stored (38). The therapeutic agent can be selectively mixed with the lavage solution to form a blended solution. The mixing can be performed selectively so as to make it possible to sequentially apply the blended solution or a basic (lavage only) solution.
