Abstract: The present technology describes systems and methods for power coupling of a tractor-trailer system. The technology may include a robotic arm, an end effector, a coupling tool, and a tool resting rack. An electrical outlet on a trailer may be coupled with a tool under control of the end effector and positioning of the robotic arm. The end effector may include a housing, a motor, a clutch, and a drive shaft. A tool coupled to the end effector may include an electro-mechanical (EM) coupler. The EM coupler may include a housing, an electric plug, a lid lifter, a lead screw, and a servomotor.

Abstract: An on-board vehicle computer system receives a software update package from a remote computer system via a wireless communication network. The update package includes a software update for an updatable electronic component (e.g., an ECU) of the vehicle. Prior to installing the update, the vehicle computer system may check for a valid backup software version in a storage medium in the vehicle computer system to facilitate reversion to a previous software version in the event of an error during installation of the update. Installation of the update may be delayed until a compatible backup software version is obtained. After installation of the update, the system stores the update in the storage medium as the current backup software version for the updatable electronic component. This facilitates roll-back to a functional state in the event of an error during a future update.

Abstract: A method of autonomously backing a vehicle (e.g., a tractor unit) to a trailer (e.g., a semi-trailer) comprising a trailer-mounted coupling device (e.g., a kingpin). The method includes determining, by an autonomous backing module of the vehicle, a target corresponding to the trailer-mounted coupling device; determining, by the autonomous backing module, a path to maneuver the vehicle to the target and align a vehicle-mounted coupling device (e.g., a fifth wheel) with the trailer-mounted coupling device, determining, by the autonomous backing module, commands to components of the vehicle to autonomously control the vehicle to maneuver along the determined path to the target, and transmitting, by the autonomous backing module, the commands to the components of the vehicle (e.g., a braking control module, a steering control module, and/or a torque request module). Suitably configured vehicles are also described.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a vehicle is provided having improved fuel economy by using gradual engine speed control. Once a governor activation threshold is crossed, a dynamic engine speed limit that gradually increases over time is implemented. In some embodiments, if the engine speed does not continue to rise over time, increases in the dynamic engine speed limit may be paused. In some embodiments, if the engine speed increases at too great of a rate for too long of a time, the dynamic engine speed limit may be reset. In some embodiments, increasing, pausing, and/or resetting the dynamic engine speed limit allows gradual acceleration while also avoiding torque lock.

Abstract: A hood support for a vehicle having a hood moveable between open and closed positions is provided. The hood support includes a spring assembly disposable between the vehicle hood and another portion of the vehicle. The spring assembly is moveable into an extended position to accommodate movement of the hood into the open position and moveable into a compressed position to accommodate movement of the hood into the closed position. The hood support further includes a lock tube surrounding a portion of the spring assembly and moveable relative to the spring assembly. The lock tube is selectively actuatable between a locked position, wherein the lock tube secures the spring assembly in the extended position, and an unlocked position, wherein the spring assembly is permitted to be displaced into the compressed position.

Abstract: Systems and methods for modulating power provided to a heating element of a vehicle exhaust system is provided. One system includes a controller controlling a switch, and an alternator having a first field terminal input, wherein the first field terminal input is connected to the switch. Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to systems, devices, and methods wherein dynamically generated symmetric keys are used for encryption and decryption of software updates for vehicles. The symmetric keys are dynamically generated using a combination of information that ties a given symmetric key to a specific combination of a vehicle and the devices installed therein. The dynamic generation of the symmetric keys also uses a piece of random data generated by an intermediary server, which allows the intermediary server to validate devices before providing the piece of random data and thereby control access to the software updates. Use of the techniques disclosed herein provide heightened security, control, safety, and reliability for over-the-air software updates for vehicles.
