Polymer membranes that include a crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine), which membranes are non-porous or are porous with pores having a median pore size of 300 nm or less. Also disclosed are polymer membranes which include a crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine) and which also include a second polyamine wherein the poly(vinyl alcohol-co-vinylamine) and the second polyamine are crosslinked with one another.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatus relate to a glass reference plate panel; to a modular glass reference plate assembly; and to creation of the modular glass reference plate assembly, which may include providing a plurality of glass reference plate panels, arranging the plurality of glass reference plate panels into an array of adjoining glass reference plate panels, and adhering together the adjoining glass reference plate panels. One or more embodiments may include 6.8mm-thick borosilicate glass, ground and polished, with reference marks on a top side and a PVD aluminum coating on a bottom side, perforated with holes, arranged in a 4x4 array of 16 glass reference plate panels, each approximately 810 mm2 in size, abutting at interfaces formed by lap joints, and bonded together with a UV-curable adhesive into a contiguous piece.
Abstract:
A method for base-coating a porous ceramic catalyst support includes coating the support with a passivation coating via vacuum infiltration, and subsequently exposing the support to a microwave field to dry the coating and form a polymerized film. The method further includes coating the support with a catalyst coating or washcoat, and subsequently exposing the support to a second microwave field, thereby removing water from the catalyst coating or washcoat.
Abstract:
Disclosed are photo or electron beam curable polymerizable compositions, and preparation thereof and devices (101)containing such cured material. The composition contains completely or substantially completely hydrogenated hydrocarbon-based material completely free or substantially free of carbon-carbon double and triple bonds containing photo or electron beam curable terminal or pendant groups, low-outgassing photoinitiators, an optional viscosity adjustment component and an optional filler. The composition is visible light, UV or electron beam curable. It cures into a low-modulus, low outgassing polymer material. The composition can be used as an adhesive, sealant or lens potting material (103,107). It is ideal for use in lithographic tools and other optical devices involving deep or vacuum ultraviolet radiations, in particular, as lens potting materials (107,103) for 248 nm, 193 nm and 157 nm lithographic tools, as well as other optical devices involving using high fluence irradiation.
Abstract:
A multiwell plate (100) is described herein that can be used in cell-based applications and is made from a plastic upper plate (200) which forms the sidewalls of one or more wells (160) and a glass lower plate (220) which forms the bottom walls of the wells. The plastic upper plate and glass lower plate are attached and bound to one another by a cationically photocured adhesive (280). A preferred cationically photcured adhesive includes: (1) one or more photocationally polymerizable epoxy and/or oxetane functional resins; (2) a low fluorescing cationic photoinitiator; and (3) a low fluorescing photosensitizer if the cationic photoinitiator does not have an adequate absorption at a wavelength >280nm to initiate cure. Also described herein is a method for making such multiwell plates.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to glass articles having improved resistance to edge fracture resulting from armoring the edges using metallic material adhesively bonded to the edges of the glass article. In one embodiment the metallic edge material is machinable to enable final finish of the part to specification tolerances. One of a plurality of layers of the metallic material can be adhesively applied to edge. The glass articles have a selected length, selected width and selected thickness, and the metallic/adhesive edge protecting composite is applied to less than or equal to the thickness of the glass such that the protecting composite does not contact the surfaces of the glass.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method to passivate porous ceramic articles containing microcracks as described herein. The method includes circulating a fluid including a passivator through the porous ceramic article and depositing at least a portion of the passivator on the porous ceramic article.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of forming a structured sintered article including providing a mixture comprising a sinterable particulate material and a binder, the binder comprising, as a function of total resin content of the binder, at least 50% by weight of a thermoplastic binder material and a radiation-curable binder material; shaping the mixture with a mold to form a structure; setting the structure by cooling the structure or by allowing the structure to cool; separating the structure from the mold; irradiating the structure so as to at least partially cure the radiation-curable binder material, and debinding and sintering the structure so as to form a structured sintered article. Shaping may include forming a structure having one or more open channels, and sintering may include sintering in together in contact with at least one additional structure so as to cover or enclose the channels.
Abstract:
Disclosed are ceramic articles, which in one aspect are composed predominately of a cordierite having a composition close to that of Mg 2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 . The ceramic articles possess a microstructure characterized by a unique combination of relatively high porosity and relatively narrow pore size distribution, both as measured by mercury porosimetry, that render the ceramic structure useful for ceramic filter applications requiring high thermal durability and high filtration efficiency coupled with low pressure drop along the length of the filter. Such ceramic bodies are particularly well suited for filtration applications, such as diesel exhaust filters or DPFs. Also disclosed are methods for the manufacture of the ceramic articles described herein.
