Abstract: Embodiments of electric motor driven door or barrier opener with a manually operable drive for use in the event of a power failure are provided. The operator comprises a gear box drive connectable with an electric motor of said operator, said gear box comprising an output for drive coupling with said door to effect opening and closing of said door by said motor and a shaft that drive rotates when said motor rotates. The shaft carries a free wheeling manually rotatable drive wheel as said manually operable drive and useable in the event of power failure to effect manual drive rotation movement of said shaft to open and close the door via said gearbox. The manually rotatable drive wheel comprises at least one drive coupler mounted to move in a generally radially extending direction relative to a central longitudinal axis of said shaft so that manual rotation of said drive wheel in the event of a power failure will effect a movement of the at least one drive coupler in the generally radially extending direction to effect a drive coupling between said drive wheel and said shaft to input drive to said shaft to permit manual opening and or closing of said door.

Abstract: A sectional door/tilt door operator unit (1) is provided for opening and closing the door. The unit (1) has an electric motor (13) mounted to a generally planar chassis (3) with a motor spindle (29) extending substantially parallel to the planar chassis (3). The motor (13) has a stator outer housing (27) and a rotor carried by the spindle (29) both of which extend from one side of the generally planar chassis (3) through a cut-out (25) to extend on the opposite side of the (generally planar) chassis (3). The motor spindle (20) has a worm gear (39) meshing with a pinion gear (33) carried by the generally planar chassis (3) for rotation about an axis extending generally mutually perpendicular to the generally planar chassis (3). The pinion gear (33) is connected with an output drive (7) carried by the generally planar chassis (3) so as to impart rotary output drive thereto. The generally planar chassis (3) is able to connect with an elongate carriage drive system which connects with the door via a mounting surface (9) which positions the elongate carriage drive system to pick up drive from the output drive (7). The arrangement can provide for a compact unit relative to known units.

Abstract: An operator ratchet mechanism for effecting reciproctable lateral movement if an element of a geared drive train in a door, gate or barrier operator. The operator ratchet mechanism can be utilised to cause disconnection between the geared drive train and an electric motor of the door gate or barrier operator to enable the door gate or barrier to me manually moved, and subsequent reconnection between the geared drive connection and electric motor. An embodiment of a tilt door operator which enables disconnection and reconnection between a geared drive train and an electric motor of the operator by effecting lateral displacement of an element of the geared drive train is also disclosed.

Abstract: A obstruction beam protection system for sensing an object in the path of the door during closing of the door by a door operator and for inhibiting operation for closing of the door. The beam protection system comprises a beam transmitter and beam receiver for positioning proximate to a passageway to be closed by the door, so as, when in use, to project a beam from the beam transmitter across the passageway to be receivable by the beam receiver. The beam transmitter and the beam receiver are provided with a local communication system for communication with an operator communication system associated with the operator. The beam transmitter and the beam receiver are both adapted to operate in a low power sleep state and a wake state. In the wake state the beam transmitter will transmit a beam across the passageway to be receivable by said beam receiver and so said beam receiver will be able to process a received beam as an indication of an object not being in the path of the door, the absence or interruption of a received beam as an indication of an object being in the path of the door. This later condition of absence or interruption can be communicated via the local communication system to the operator communication system to inhibit said operator from closing said door by appropriate operation of the operator electric control circuitry.

Abstract: A sensor assembly for a door operator having a motor (501), a drive train, and a controller (130). The sensor assembly comprises ah input shaft (226) connectable to the drive train to be rotated therewith as the door is opened and closed even when the drive train is released from the motor. A magnet (215) is coupled to rotate with the input shaft (226) and its orientation is determined by a fixed sensor (218) to accurately sense the position of the door. The magnet (215) has less than 360 degree relative rotation over the full range travel of the door. Thus, when the drive train is disconnected by a manually operable clutch, the magnet (215) rotates with the door movement so that when the drive is reconnected, the controller (130) will be able to immediately determine the absolute position of the door.
