The invention relates to the use of at least one compound of general formula (I), in which R1, R2 and R3 independently of one another represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkenyl radical; R4 represents an alkyl or alkenyl radical and n represents 1 to 5; or of an acid addition salt thereof, as an inhibitor of corrosion in the extraction, processing, storage and transportation of crude oil and natural gas, and to a process for the preparation of this compound.

Sulphonated and oxidised indene are prepared by (a) polymerising indene or indene derivates having general formula (I), in which R stands for hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and n equals 1 or 2, or mixtures which contain besides the compounds having the formula (I) at least 10 % by weight of other copolymerisable and/or non polymerisable organic compounds; (b) sulphonating the polymer with a sulphonating agent at temperatures from 40 to 130 DEG C; and (c) oxidising the polymer without terminating its chains at temperatures from 80 to 180 DEG C. These indene polymers are suitable as dispergents, for example in dyestuff and pigment compositions.

The invention concerns the use as low-foam or antifoaming surfactants, in particular in washing and cleaning agent formulations and for chemical - technical applications, of block-form iso-tridecanolalkoxylates of the formula (I): R-O-(CmH2mO)x-(CnH2nO)y-H, in which: R designates an iso-tridecyl group; m stands for the number 2 and simultaneously n stands for 3 or 4; or m stands for the number 3 or 4 and simultaneously n stands for 2; and x and y, independently of each other, designate numbers from 1 to 20, wherein, if m = 2/n = 3 or 4, the variable x is greater than or equal to y.
