A functionalized resin composition having the formula P-S-X where S is a spacer selected from at least one of C2-C40 straight chain and branched a lkyl, C6-C40 aromatics, butadiene, isoprene, and combinations thereof, P is a polymer backbone selected from at least one of dicyclopentadiene ( DCPD)-based polymers, cyclopentad iene (CPD)-based polymers, DCPD-styrene copolymers, C5 homopolymers and copolymer resins, C5-styrene copolymer resins, terpene homopolymer or copolymer resins, pinene homopolymer or copolymer resins, Cg homopolymers and copolymer resins, C5/C9 copolymer resins, alpha-methylstyrene homopolymer or copolymer resins, and combinations thereof, and X is a silane. A process for preparing the functionalized resin composition having the formula P-S-X. A tire tread composition comprising the functionalized resin composition and a tire comprising the tire tread composition.

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a cyclic olefin polymer by addition polymerization, and more particularly to a method for preparing a norbornene-based addition polymer, which comprises a step of contacting a norbornene-based monomer having an ester or acetyl group with a catalyst system comprising: a Group X transition metal compound; a compound comprising a neutral Group XV electron donor ligand having a cone angle of at least 160°; and a salt capable of offering an anion that can be weakly coordinated to the transition metal, in solvent. The norbornene-based addition polymer having an ester or acetyl group according to the present invention is transparent, has superior adhesivity and a low dielectric constant, and it generates no byproducts when attached to metal. Therefore, it can be used as an optical film, a retardation film, a protection film for a polarizer, POFs (plastic optical fiber), PCBs (printed circuit board), or insulators of electronic devices.

The invention relates to a catalyst containing: (a) a nickel-phosphorane iminato complex of formula [NiX(NPR3)]4, wherein X represents a covalently linked or weakly coordinating ligand, R represents, independently of one another a C1-C20 alkyl, C6-C20 aralkyl or a C1-C20 alkyl-phospha-cyclopentanyl and b) a borane or borate. The invention also relates to a method for the polymerisation of cycloolefins to polycycloolefins, block and graft copolymers.

A process for the preparation of a silica-treated functionalized resin composition comprising the steps of reacting a polymer backbone with a hydrosilylation agent to produce a silane-functionalized resin composition, wherein the polymer backbone is selected from at least one of dicyclopentadiene (DCPD)-based polymers, cyclopentadiene (CPD)-based polymers, DCPD-styrene copolymers, C5 homopolymers and copolymer resins, C5-styrene copolymer resins, terpene homopolymer or copolymer resins, pinene homopolymer or copolymer resins, C9 homopolymers and copolymer resins, C5/C9 copolymer resins, alpha-methylstyrene homopolymer or copolymer resins, and combinations thereof; and mixing the silane-functionalized resin composition with a silica to produce a silica-treated functionalized resin composition. A silica-treated functionalized resin composition prepared by the process. A tire tread composition comprising the silica-treated functionalized resin composition and a tire comprising the tread.
