Abstract:
Oxidised polyisobutenes, that is polyisobutenes containing ketonic and carboxylic acid carbonyl groups, are produced by passing through a column of the polyisobutene maintained at a temperature in the range from 140 to 200°C and at atmospheric or elevated total pressure a molecular oxygen-containing gaseous oxidant at a gas flow rate greater than 10 litres cm-2h-1 measured at the operating pressure. The oxidised polysisobutenes can be reacted for example with an aliphatic polyamine to produce a lubricating oil additive or with an aliphatic polyamine and formaldehyde to produce a fuels additive.
Abstract:
Disclosed are polymers comprising phenyl rings pendant from the polymer chains or incorporated therein, wherein the phenyl rings are substituted with aldehyde and/or carboxylic acid functionalities and/or derivatives thereof. Also disclosed is a catalytic oxidation process for producing such polymers from precursor polymers containing benzylic carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Oxidised waxes are obtained by oxidising polyolefins obtained by metallocene catalysis and having a molecular weight Mw in a range from 1000 to 40,000 g/mole.
Abstract:
Sulphonated and oxidised indene are prepared by (a) polymerising indene or indene derivates having general formula (I), in which R stands for hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and n equals 1 or 2, or mixtures which contain besides the compounds having the formula (I) at least 10 % by weight of other copolymerisable and/or non polymerisable organic compounds; (b) sulphonating the polymer with a sulphonating agent at temperatures from 40 to 130 DEG C; and (c) oxidising the polymer without terminating its chains at temperatures from 80 to 180 DEG C. These indene polymers are suitable as dispergents, for example in dyestuff and pigment compositions.
Abstract:
This invention provides a method by which an alkylstyrene containing polymer may be exclusively functionalized at the primary benzylic carbon site of the styrenic monomer. The process of this invention comprises the treatment of an alkylstyrene containing polymer dissolved in a non-polar liquid medium with an organic hydroperoxide oxidizing reagent in the presence of a catalytically sufficient amount of a chromium compound, to oxidize a portion of the aromatic alkyl groups of the polymer to an oxygen containing functional group.
Abstract:
Described is a method of preparing polyvinyl pyridine-N-oxides by the oxidation of polyvinyl pyridines with aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide in the presence, as a catalyst, of acids and oxides or acids of elements of groups 5b, 6b, 7b and 8 of the periodic table, or salts of such acids. The oxidation can also take place in the absence of catalyst with the addition of 40 to 80 % by wt. of aqueous solutions of at least dibasic carboxylic acids or polymers of monoethylenically unsaturated.
Abstract:
Chemically modified olefin polymers are made by reacting solid particles of ethylenically unsaturated olefin polymer with an oxy-addition agent in a compatible non-solvent liquid. The liquid is one which wets the polymer but does not dissolve or soften it. The polymer is particularly polypropylene and especially substantially isotactic and thermoplastic unsaturated polypropylene. The oxy-addition agent is particularly an epoxidising agent such as hydrogen peroxide or a percarboxylic acid. Useful modified polymers include epoxidised polyolefins which are more polar than the parent polyolefins and can be used as intermediates in making other derivatives such as diols, ethers and esters.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the N-oxidation of polyamine polymers comprising treating said polyamine polymers with an effective amount of hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous or partly aqueous solution in the presence of heavy metal ion sequestrant and a metal oxide catalyst selected from tungstate, molybdate and vanadate.
Abstract:
An oxidized polymer solution is produced by oxidizing a saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer in solution in a solvent mixture comprising water and an alcohol in the presence of a salt of a multivalent metal. A laminate is produced by coating a base material such as a polymer film with the polymer solution.
