A fuel injection system (1) for a reciprocating engine, comprising injectors (6) for injecting pressurized fuel into the cylinders (13) of the engine, a high pressure pump (5) for pressurizing fuel to be injected, a supply pipe (7) for feeding fuel from the high pressure pump (5) toward the injectors (6)and feed pipes (8) for feeding fuel from the supply pipe (7) to the injectors (6). The first ends of the feed pipes (7) are connected to the injectors(6) and the second ends to the supply pipe (7). Each fuel injector (6) is provided with a pressure accumulator (14).

The fuel injection unit (1) for an internal combustion engine comprises a body (29), a first fuel gallery (31) and a second fuel gallery (32), a first fuel injection nozzle (3) and a second fuel injection nozzle (4), a first injector needle (7) for opening and closing flow communication between the first fuel gallery (31) and the first fuel injection nozzle (3), and a second injector needle (8) for opening and closing flow communication between the second fuel gallery (32) and the second fuel injection nozzle (4). The invention also concerns a fuel injection system.
Abstract:
The method for controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine comprises at least two operating modes.In a first operating mode,the intake valve (3) is closed at a first predetermined crank angle, in accordance with the Miller cycle, before the piston (2) reaches bottom dead center during the intake stroke for reducing pressure in the cylinder (1), and fuel is injected using first fuel injection means (9a) optimized for large amounts of fuel. In a second operating mode the intake valve (3) is closed at a second predetermined crank angle, in accordance with conventional intake valve closing timing, after or slightly before the piston (2) has passed bottom dead center, and fuel is injected using second fuel injection means (9b) optimized for small amounts of fuel. The invention also concerns an internal combustion engine.
