Abstract:
Computationally implemented methods and systems include capturing a scene that includes one or more images, through use of an array of more than one image sensor, selecting a particular portion of the scene that includes at least one image, wherein the selected particular portion is smaller than the scene, transmitting only the selected particular portion from the scene to a remote location, and de-emphasizing pixels from the scene that are not part of the selected particular portion of the scene. In addition to the foregoing, other aspects are described in the claims, drawings, and text.
Abstract:
A field emission device is configured as a heat engine. Different embodiments of the heat engine may have different configurations that may include a cathode, gate, suppressor, and anode arranged in different ways according to a particular embodiment. Different embodiments of the heat engine may also incorporate different materials in and/or proximate to the cathode, gate, suppressor, and anode.
Abstract:
A micro-impulse radar (MIR) may be configured to provide information about at least one person in a region. A media output device may be driven responsive to the information to output media content to the at least one person.
Abstract:
Methods and related systems for modulating neural activity by repetitively or cyclically blocking conduction in a peripheral neural structure are disclosed. Timing of delivery of blocking stimuli may be based upon overall activity level of the subject or use/activity of a portion of the body of a subject.
Abstract:
An engine includes a piston slidably disposed in a cylinder with a closed end and a converter operable with the piston to convert mechanical energy of the first piston from and to electrical energy within a piston cycle.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, computer program products, devices and systems are described that include accepting one or more blood vessel sleeve dimensions based on blood vessel data from an individual; and making a rapid-prototyped blood vessel sleev at least partly based on the one or more blood vessel sleeve dimensions.
Abstract:
Embodiments include a medical device, an apparatus, and a method. The medical device includes a tube portion shaped and sized for airway passage insertion and having at least one pathway therethrough; and a stylet of at least one shape-transforming material, configured for insertion in one of said at least one pathway; and at least one sensor carried by the tube portion and the stylet. The apparatus includes a stylet having a first end and a second end, at least a portion of the stylet including a shape-transforming material, the stylet being configured for insertion through an airway intubation structure having at least one pathway therethrough; and at least one sensor carried by the stylet in a proximity to the first end. The method includes capturing an image adjacent to an airway tube proximate to an airway passage; and actuating, in response to the image, at least one shape-transformation of the airway tube.
Abstract:
Methods and articles are provided for reducing the amount of water consumed by a plant over a period of time, sequestering CO 2 , and producing electricity, where each method includes providing the plant with a composition including at least about 0.1 (wt./wt. or vol./vol.) % CO 2 and/or at least about 0.1 wt./wt.% of a composition that generates CO 2 . An apparatus is also disclosed for providing the plant with a composition including CO 2 and/or a composition that generates CO 2 .
Abstract:
A thermal insulator includes a plurality of layers. At least some of the layers include phononic crystals having a phononic bandgap, wherein heat transporting phonons within a selected range of frequencies are substantially blocked by each phononic crystal layer. The plurality of layers thermally isolate a first region from a second region, wherein the first region is at one end of the plurality of layers and the second region is at the other end of the plurality of layers.
Abstract:
Exemplary methods, systems and components enable detection and/or monitoring and/or control of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) exposure of target body-related portions of a user operating a telecommunication device. In some embodiments a risk-assessment output is provided based on a safety threshold or predetermined intrusion level of EMR exposure.
