    摘要: A system and process for automatically characterizing a plurality of external cavity semiconductor laser chips on a semiconductor laser bar separated from a semiconductor wafer. The system includes a diffraction grating mounted on a rotary stage for rotating the diffraction grating through a range of diffraction angles; a steering mirror mounted on the rotary stage and oriented perpendicular to a surface of the diffraction grating; and a laser analyzer; and a laser bar positioning stage. The positioning stage is automatically moved to aligning each laser chip in a laser bar on the stage, one chip at a time, with the diffraction grating, such that a part of the laser beam emitted from a laser chip in a laser bar is reflected back to the same laser chip by the 1st order diffraction of the grating to lock the lasing wavelength and the rest of the laser beam reflected by the steering mirror is received and characterized by the laser analyzer. For each laser ship, the rotary stage is automatically rotated to rotate the diffraction grating through a range of diffraction angles relative the laser beam emitted by the laser chip, and the laser analyzer automatically characterizes the laser optical properties such as spectra, power, or spatial modes at each diffraction angle.

    摘要: A method and system for automatically generating a traffic incident management plan are disclosed. In one example, the method includes receiving information representing a traffic incident and validating at least a portion of the received information to ensure that the received information is sufficient to enable the generation of the traffic incident management plan. The method includes the use of a hybrid intelligence engine using a case based reasoning (CBR) process or a rule based reasoning (RBR) process to generate the traffic incident management plan, through use of a discriminate index corresponding to incident features. The method is coupled with a post-generation plan validation process. A plan evaluation mechanism using a confidence index is embedded.

    摘要: Included are embodiments of a quantum cascade laser structure. Some embodiments include a plurality of quantum wells and a plurality of barriers, at least a portion of which define an active region. In some embodiments, a photon is emitted in the active region when an electron transitions from an upper laser state in the active region to a lower laser state in the active region. Additionally, a final quantum well in the plurality of quantum wells may define the active region, where the final quantum well extends below an adjacent quantum well in the active region. Similarly, the final quantum well may include a thickness that is less than a thickness of the adjacent quantum well in the active region.

    摘要: A quantum cascade laser and its method of fabrication are provided. The quantum cascade laser comprises an active waveguide core (29) sandwiched between upper (22, 26) and lower (24) n-type cladding layers which extend along a waveguide axis of the laser. A portion (40) of the upper n-type cladding layer comprises sufficient p-type dopant to have become p-type and to have become an electrical isolation region. The isolation regions may be solely provided at one or both of the window facet sections (13, 14) of the laser to provide vertical isolation in the facet sections, to reduce the current info the facet regions of the laser, and help minimize potentially harmful facet heating. Additional p-type electrical isolations regions (40) may be provided to form electrically isolated laser sections (10, 12, 16) extending along the waveguide axis of the laser.
