Abstract:
Disclosed herein are pharmaceutical compositions comprising carboxyalkylcellulose esters for sustained delivery of pharmaceutically active substances. The composition comprises: at least one pharmaceutically active agent, and at least one carboxyalkyl cellulose ester comprising an anhydroglucose repeat unit having the structure (I), wherein: R 1 -R 6 are each independently selected from -OH, -OC(O)(alkyl), and -O(CH 2 ) X C(O)OH, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein x ranges from 1-3, a degree of substitution per anhydroglucose of - OH ranges from 0.1 to 0.7, a degree of substitution per anhydroglucose of -C(O)(alkyl) ranges from 0.1 to 2.7, and a degree of substitution per anhydroglucose of -O(CH 2 ) X C(O)OH ranges from 0.2 to 0.75, and wherein in pharmaceutically acceptable media, the composition exhibits sustained release of the at least one pharmaceutically active agent. Also disclosed are methods of administering the compositions for sustained delivery, such as delivery following zero order kinetics.
Abstract:
Antimicrobial agents, products and compositions incorporating the agents, and methods of using the compositions and products are provided. The antimicrobial agents comprise 1,2-cyclohexanedimethanol, 1,4- cyclohexanedimethanol, 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol, or mixtures thereof. These agents have surprisingly been found to inhibit microbial growth at a much lower concentration than other glycols with known antimicrobial activity.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an apparatus and a method for monitoring the viscoelastic properties, of a liquid film (e.g. coating). The apparatus includes a substrate for supporting a liquid film and a T-bar probe that is partially submerged in the liquid film. The apparatus is designed to be attached to a conventional rheometer equipped with a means for effecting relative movement between the probe and the substrate and means for monitoring the resistance to movement of the probe in contact or partially submerged in the film to obtain a measurement of the solidification properties of the liquid film. This apparatus and method are particularly useful in comparing the effects of film formers, viscosity modifiers, solvents, and minerals on the drying rate of coatings at the early stage of film formation.
Abstract:
This invention relates to compositions that contain cyclodextrin derivatives and selective estrogen receptor modulators and methods for the production of the compositions of the invention. The invention further relates of methods of administering the compositions of the present invention to a human or animal.
Abstract:
A water-dissipatable film fopning formulation includes a polymer having at least one water solubilizing or dissipating moiety; an active ingredient or agent; and at least one of a plasticizer or a humectant. The present invention also includes a method for delivering an active agent to the epidermis of a subject. The method includes applying the film forming formulation to a predetermined area of skin.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are pharmaceutical compositions comprising carboxyalkylcellulose esters for delivery of pharmaceutically active substances having low solubility in a medium such as water, an acidic aqueous buffer, a neutral aqueous buffer, or a basic aqueous buffer. Also disclosed are methods for making pharmaceutical compositions and methods of administering the compositions.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to compositions comprising a water-miscible organic solvent or solvent mixture and one or more cyclodextrin derivatives soluble in the organic water-miscible organic solvent or solvent mixture. In some embodiments, the composition comprises one or more compounds. The invention is further directed to capsules containing the compositions of the present invention and the administration of pharmaceutically active compounds or molecules to subjects. The invention also includes methods of enhancing the solubility of a compound comprising forming a complex or mixture of a compound with a hydroxybutenyl cyclodextrin and a water-miscible solvent.
Abstract:
This invention provides cellulose ester interpolymers, and methods of oxidizing cellulose interpolymers and cellulose ester interpolymers. The invention also provides routes to access carboxylated cellulose ester derivatives with high acid numbers wherein the carboxyl group is attached directly to the cellulose backbone by a carbon-carbon bond. Through functionalization of an intermediate aldehyde, the corresponding cationic or zwitterionic cellulose ester derivatives can also be accessed. The interpolymers of the present invention have a number of end-use applications, for example, as binder resins in various types of coating compositions and as drug delivery agents.
