Abstract: An illuminator assembly, having a plurality of LEDs on a vehicular support member in a manner such that, when all of the LEDs are energized, illumination exhibiting a first perceived hue, e.g., blue-green, and projected from at least one of the LEDs overlaps and mixes with illumination exhibiting a second perceived hue, e.g., amber, which is distinct from said first perceived hue and which is projected from at least one of the remaining LEDs in such a manner that this overlapped and mixed illumination forms a metameric white color and has sufficient intensity and color rendering qualities to be an effective illuminator.

Abstract: The present invention provides electrochromic layers, which comprise polymeric matrices with electrochromic solutions interspersed therein. Varying an electrical potential difference across a layer of the invention results in reversible variation in the transmittance of light across the layer because of electrochemical processes in the electrochromic solution of the layer. The invention further provides electrochromic devices, in which the electrochromic layers of the invention provide reversibly variable transmittance to light, and various apparatus in which the devices of the invention provide light-filtering or light-color modulation. Such apparatus include windows, including those for use inside and on the outside walls of buildings and in sunroofs for automobiles, and variable reflectance mirrors, especially rearview mirrors for automobiles.

Abstract: A radio frequency control system (10, 110) is provided which is particularly adapted for use in connection with an automotive vehicle. The system includes code generating means (12, 145) and a radio frequency transmitter (12, 142) operatively associated with the code generating means. A first antenna (16) is provided which is connected to the transmitter, and a radio frequency receiver (26, 126) is provided which is connected to a second antenna (20). Abstract: A breakaway bracket is provided for mounting a rearview mirror (20) to a button (14) on the inner surface of a vehicle windshield (12). The bracket includes a spring clip (172) which has a base portion (173), longitudinally extending, opposed, resilient side flanges (176), and a resilient locking flange (184) which extends from the base portion (173). Abstract: A control system for a plurality of electrochromic elements, for example, used in automobiles, to control the glare of the inside electrochromic (IEC) elements used as a rear view mirror (20) as well as the outside electrochromic (OEC) elements (24, 26) used as side view mirrors (24, 26). The IEC element and each of the OEC elements is provided with an individual drive circuit (21, 22). The drive circuits for the OEC's elements may be customized to account for various factors such as the type of curvature as well as the size and shape. Since individual drive circuitry is provided for the IEC elements and each of the OEC elements, the reflectance of each of the electrochromic elements (20, 24, 26) can be relatively accurately controlled by way of glare signal from inside the automobile.
