Abstract:
This application discloses a wound dressing comprising an absorbent layer and a moisture indicator which indicates wound exudate loading within the dressing, wherein the visibility of the moisture indicator changes as a result of a physical transformation of a first material within the dressing.
Abstract:
Device comprising polyurethane material for indicating pH at a locus, preferably as indication of presence of microbes, comprising a polyurethane network having 5 immobilised therein one or more hydrophilic copolymers, the or each said copolymer comprising: hydrophilic monomer; and indicator monomer, which provides an indication in response to a change in hydrophilic state of said hydrophilic monomer and/or copolymer; 10 characterised in that the or each copolymer further comprises one or a plurality of ionisable groups or moieties or polymerisable monomers having one or more characteristic pKa values in the range 5 to 10 and which are responsive to pH at the locus in the range pH 5 to pH 10 and in that hydrophilic state of hydrophilic copolymer is dependent on ionisation of said 15 ionisable groups, moieties or monomers; kit and device comprising the material and process for preparation thereof; and use in detecting or sensing microbes or pH.
Abstract:
A polyurethane material for the detection or sensing of species or stimulus comprising a polyurethane network comprising immobilised therein, or modified by the immobilisation therein of, a hydrophilic polymer comprising a ligand or moiety for the detection or sensing of species or stimulus and an indicator for indicating detection or sensing wherein species or stimulus is selected from chemical or biological species or stimulus; the material for medical, dental, hygiene, point of use sterilisation, sanitation, personal care, biosurveillance or packaging use, the use thereof preferably for detecting and/or sensing or binding bacteria, or for detecting or sensing pH or for detection or scanning with use of a reader; a Kit and a device comprising the same; and a process for the preparation thereof.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an absorbent layer for use in a wound product and an absorbent layer is provided. The method includes placing a layer of foam between two opposed pressing surfaces. The foam is compressed foam between the two pressing surfaces to reduce the thickness of the foam and the foam is dielectrically heated the foam during compression between the pressing surfaces.
Abstract:
A wound dressing (100) for use in the application of negative pressure to a wound, comprising a support member (102) and a cover member (106) positionable over the wound in use. The support member can have a first support element having a first portion (116a) aligned with a first axis and a body portion (114) coupled with and extending away from the first portion, and a second support element having a first portion (116b) aligned with the first axis and a body portion (114) coupled with and extending away from the first portion of the second support element. At least the body portion of each of the first support element and the second support element can be independently rotatable about the first axis. The support member can support at least a middle portion of the cover member above a surface of the wound so as to define a space between the wound cover and the wound.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a negative pressure wound closure system and methods for using such a system. Preferred embodiments of the invention facilitate closure of the wound by preferentially contracting to provide for movement of the tissue.
Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods are provided for monitoring wound status and progression by measuring pH levels indicated by pH-sensitive wound dressings. In some implementations, a wound is monitored by capturing an image of the pH-sensitive wound dressing and processing the captured image to determine the color of a pH indicator included on the wound dressing. The color of the indicator is determined in terms of RGB values from the image, and a pH value for the wound dressing is calculated from the dressing RGB values. The calculated pH value is then relayed to a user to be used as an indicator of wound status or health.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are devices and methods for determining the pH of fluid. Example devices include a device comprising a surface configured to contact the fluid and a pH indicator covalently bound thereto, wherein the pH indicator has a first colour prior to contact with the fluid and changes colour as a function of the pH of the fluid.
Abstract:
Some arrangements disclosed herein relate to devices and methods for treating a wound, comprising applying negative pressure to the wound through a cover applied over a wound, monitoring the internal pressure in the wound, and controlling the closure of the wound by controlling the amount that a wound packing material positioned under the cover collapses within the wound based on the monitored internal pressure. The wound packing material collapse can be controlled to ensure that the monitored internal pressure does not exceed a threshold value. Additionally, some embodiments or arrangements disclosed herein relate to a visualization element to visualize a location of a wound surface. The visualization element can comprise a radiopaque member that is configured to be positioned on or adjacent to a surface of an open wound.
