Abstract:
Abstract:
Polymeric fibers, and apparatuses for and methods of processing such fibers to be useful as sutures, where at least one end of a fiber includes a termination feature. The termination feature is formed through the application of energy to a coiled region of the fiber.
Abstract:
A suture needle system includes a first needle and at least one second needle. Each of the first and second needles preferably has a common needle body construct. The first needle includes an elongate suture having a length sufficient to extend at least the length of an instrument channel of an endoscope. The second needle includes an opening formed by a loop of suture at which the second needle can be advanced over the elongate suture. In use, the first needle is secured to a first tissue location using an endoscopic suturing system. A second needle is advanced at its opening over the elongate suture and secured to a second tissue location. Additional second needles may be advanced over the elongate suture to respective tissue locations. The elongate suture is pulled taut, drawing the second needles into proximity, and secured.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a locking portion, a flexible pulling portion, a flexible body, and a plurality of barb features extending laterally from the body. The locking portion is configured to receive the pulling potion. The pulling portion is configured to engage and translate relative to the locking portion after the locking portion has received the pulling portion. The flexible body extends from the locking portion to the pulling portion. The flexible body is configured to form a loop when the pulling portion engages the locking portion. The loop is configured to decrease in size in response to pulling of the pulling portion relative to the locking portion. The barb features are configured to engage a tubular region of tissue and thereby form pleats in the tubular region of tissue.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an applicator for suturing, ligating and thereby fastening tissues by means of one or a series of tied-sutures, said applicator characterized by a proximal portion comprising an actuating knob mounted to a handle, and a distal portion where a cartridge comprises a needle-assisted suture's discharging mechanism, and single or a plurality of fastenable-sutures, is located, at least one of the sutures is an elongated member having a male-head provided at its distal end, and a male-accepting female-head provided at its opposite proximal end, both ends are interconnected by means of at least one cord, the distal portion further comprising an elongated shaft interconnected to a curved rotatable needle which is further interconnected to the sutures.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a system, a device, a cassette for use therein and method for suturing two tissue sections, for example two sections of a tissue, by using a plurality of consecutively-arranged anchoring units.
Abstract:
The invention provides a fastening device for laparoscopic hernia repair. The coordinated operation of two insertion members stabilizes a fastener during closure and locking to ensure that the fastener is locked in the intended location before the device releases from the fastener. One of the insertion members includes a pair of prongs that exhibit a closed configuration when they are disposed in a recess at an end of the fastener. The fastener has a hook at one end and a loop at the other end. The insertion members push the fastener out from the device and through the tissue. A curvature in at least one of the insertion members pushes the hook through the loop all while the prongs are in the recess in the fastener, thereby stabilizing the fastener with respect to the device.
Abstract:
An anchor (80) for a suture assembly, the anchor comprising: a rigid portion (88) having a leading end; a suture engager (89) configured to engage a central portion of a length of suture at a distance from the leading end; and at least two resilient portions (84) projecting laterally from the rigid portion, the at least two resilient portions configured to be displaceable towards a central longitudinal axis (L) of the anchor. A suture assembly, the suture comprising: a single length of suture; a first barbed portion having a first plurality of barbs formed thereon; a second barbed portion having a second plurality of barbs formed thereon, wherein the first plurality of barbs and second plurality of barbs are inclined towards a central portion of the length of suture.
Abstract:
Anchored suture line (ASL), comprising a suture thread upon which is located a plurality of anchor structures permanently attached to said suture thread at predetermined intervals, may be advantageously employed for surgical suturing procedures. An ASL suturing device may be employed to sequentially implant the anchors, still tethered to the suture line. As they are implanted, the anchors expand thereby becoming secured in the tissue. The process may be repeated without cutting the suture line until the wound is sealed.
