Abstract:
An absorbent article (20) such as a diaper comprises a topsheet (24), a backsheet (25) and an absorbent core (28). The absorbent layer comprises at least a longitudinally-extending central portion (60), and a first and second side portions (61, 62) disposed transversally outward of the central portion. The absorbent core further comprises first and second folding guides (261, 262) between the central portion and the side portions. Each side portion comprises a plurality of winglets (610-613, 620-623), each winglet having a proximal side (6200, 6210, 6220) relative to a folding guide and extending outward from this proximal side, and wherein neighboring winglets are separated by a gap between their neighboring sides (6202-6211, 6213-6221). The central portion and the side portions form a three-dimensional basin when the absorbent core is folded along the folding guides. The article further may comprise at least one liquid management layer (52, 54) substantially free of superabsorbent polymer between the topsheet and the absorbent core. The absorbent core may be substantially free of cellulose fibers.
Abstract:
Absorbent pad assemblies and articles are provided which include adjacent noncontinuous vertically orientated absorbent members, horizontally displaced relative to each other along the entire vertical heights thereof and forming a vertically disposed surface interface therebetween. Also provided is a method for forming an absorbent structure wherein absorbent members are adjacently disposed and orientated such as to have a specifically desired ratio of horizontal width to vertical height.

Abstract:
There is provided an absorbent for personal care products which may be divided into about an equally sized center zone, two intermediate zones and two end zones where the ratio of the amount of liquid stored in the center zone to the amount of liquid stored in at least one of the end zones 30 minutes after an insult is less than 5:1. Such an absorbent may be used in personal care products like diapers, training pants, feminine hygiene products, absorbent underpants, adult incontinence products, and the like.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an absorbent article, such as a diaper or an incontinence guard, including a front part (13) and a rear part (14) and a crotch part (15) lying therebetween. The article also includes an absorbent body (1) which is enclosed between an outer, liquid-impermeable casing sheet (7) and an inner, liquid-permeable casing sheet (8) which, when the article is worn, lies proximal to the wearer's body. Located on respective sides of the longitudinal symmetry axis of the article are flexible longitudinally extending flaps (9, 10), each of which is connected along one of its longitudinal edges with the inner casing sheet and which extend transversely in towards the longitudinally symmetry axis of the article from this place of attachment. According to the invention, the flaps (9, 10) are joined together in the crotch part (15) of the article.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an absorbent article comprising an absorbent structure enclosed between a surface layer (2) and a backing layer (3), where the absorbent structure consists of at least one movable absorption body (4, 4a) and where a transport means (24) is arranged on each movable absorption body (4, 4a), the transport means (24) being designed in such a manner that it has lower friction a given direction against surrounding material than in other directions.
Abstract:
Absorbent pad assemblies and articles are provided wherein absorbent pad materials are adjacently disposed relative to each other and have an edge surface angularly orientated relative to the longitudinal axis thereof. Also provided is a method for forming an absorbent article having an absorbent pad assembly with an outer fluid-contacting surface including discrete portions of different absorbency. At least first and second absorbent pad materials are helically wound adjacently about a shaft member whereby at least a portion of each of the first and second absorbent pad materials includes an outer surface exposed portion.
Abstract:
Methods for forming an absorbent fibrous composite containing absorbent material dispersed in bands through the composite and along the composite's length are disclosed. The methods generally include depositing a fibrous slurry on a foraminous support (202, 204) to form a web and depositing or injecting absorbent material into the web across its width to provide a web (126) having absorbent material in bands along the composite's length. Drying the web provides a fluted absorbent composite. In one embodiment, the method is a wet-laid method and in another embodiment, the method is a foam-forming method. Preferably, the methods are twin-wire forming methods.
