摘要:
A two-stage system for oxygenating and removing carbon dioxide from a physiological fluid, including: a primary exchange module configured to receive a gas having oxygen therein and a carrier fluid having carbon dioxide therein. The primary exchange module is configured to transfer oxygen from the gas to the carrier fluid and transfer carbon dioxide from the carrier fluid to the gas to create an oxygen loaded carrier fluid and a carbon dioxide load gas. A secondary exchange module is configured to receive the oxygen loaded carrier fluid and a physiological fluid having the carbon dioxide therein. The secondary exchange module is configured to transfer the oxygen from the oxygen loaded carrier fluid to the physiological fluid and transfer carbon dioxide from the physiological fluid to the carrier fluid to create an oxygen loaded physiological fluid.

Methods and apparatus for delivering therapeutic hypothermia to a patient are provided which may include any number of features. One feature is a hypothermia system comprising a fluid reservoir, a heat exchanger assembly, a catheter in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir, and a pump system configured to infuse hypothermic fluid into a patient cavity and extract hypothermic fluid from the patient cavity. The hypothermia system can infuse and extract fluid automatically from the patient cavity. In one embodiment, the patient cavity is a peritoneal cavity. A safe access device to gain access to the patient cavity is also provided.

This invention discloses a modular system having a base module, a mid-section control module, and a display module for preparing and administering a gas-enriched bodily fluid. Gas-enrichment is achieved by a gas-enriching device which can be in the form of a disposable cartridge. During operation, the gas-enrichment device is placed in an enclosure within the control module to form a fluid pathway for extracorporeal circulation of the bodily fluid. An electronic controller manages the various aspects of the system and executes an automated method for priming the extracorporeal circuit.

Embodiments of the invention provide apparatus, systems and methods for introducing fluids into a body cavity for hypothermic and resuscitative treatment. One embodiment provides an apparatus for introducing fluids into a peritoneal cavity comprising an access device for insertion into subcutaneous tissue, an infusion member and an advancement member. The access device includes a lumen, a proximal end, a tissue penetrating distal end and a stop for controlling the depth of the distal end into tissue. The infusion member includes an infusion lumen, a removal lumen and at least one sensor and is advanceable from a lumen of the access device into the peritoneal cavity. The advancement member is removably positionable in an infusion member lumen and has sufficient column strength to advance the infusion member tip through abdominal wall tissue into the peritoneal cavity. When the advancement member is removed, the infusion member tip is substantially atraumatic.

The invention relates to control of bubble formation in a fluid during extracorporeal circulation. A fluid supply means (111a) is configured to supply fluid to the extracorporeal circuit (111a, 111b, 113, 114, 115, 116), a flow control means (113) is connectable to the 5 extracorporeal circuit and configured to control the flow of the fluid in the circuit; a gas exchange means (114) is connectable to the circuit and configured to gas exchange of the circulated fluid; an antibubble control unit (125) is connectable to an outlet (123) of the gas exchange means and configured to control the total gas pressure over a gas-exchange membrane (118) of the gas exchange means, whereby the amount of gas in the fluid leaving 10 the gas exchange means can be controlled; and fluid return means (115, 116) is connected to the gas exchange means and configured to reintroduce the fluid into the patient.
摘要:
A method to inactivate viruses in a biological fluid and a non-fluid target to produce a non-infectious biological fluid or non-fluid target. The method involves subjecting an amount of a fluid or a target containing a virus including lipid-enveloped viruses, to an amount of ozone delivered by an ozone delivery system. The method may provide for maintaining the biological integrity of the biological fluid or the non-fluid target. All gas contacting surfaces of the system, including one or more gas-fluid contact devices are made from ozone-inert construction.
