An improved catalytic filter material for use in removing target species found in a fluid stream is provided. The filter material includes water wettable, high temperature staple fibers in the form of porous substrates that are attached to a high temperature fluoropolymer woven scrim. The porous substrates have catalyst particles adhered (e.g., tethered) to the surfaces thereof by a polymer adhesive. Optionally, at least one microporous layer is positioned adjacent to or within the filter material.

A bi-component fiber is provided. The bi-component fiber includes a sheath formed of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and a core formed of a high glass transition polyester. A PPS material of the sheath has a higher melting point than a high glass transition polyester material of the core. The core is at least partially crystallized whereby the high glass transition polyester material of the core effectively has a higher softening point than a softening point of the PPS material of the sheath.

A method for preparing a porous fluoropolymer includes disposing the porous fluoropolymer precursor in a removing agent, contacting the removable additive with the removing agent, and removing, by the removing agent, the removable additive from the porous fluoropolymer precursor to form the porous fluoropolymer, wherein the porous fluoropolymer comprises a plurality of pores formed by removing the removable additive.
