There is provided a method of forming a thin film through-hole membrane comprising: providing a patterning structure, the patterning structure comprising a patterning substrate, a sacrificial layer and a thin film; imprinting the thin film with a patterned mold to form a thin-film through-hole membrane; and contacting the patterning structure with water to dissolve the sacrificial layer, thereby releasing the thin film through-hole membrane from the patterning structure. There is also provided a hierarchical membrane comprising the thin film through-hole membrane prepared from the method.

The invention provides polymer-grafted and functionalized nonwoven membranes adapted for use in bioseparation processes, the membranes including a nonwoven web of polyester fibers having an average fiber diameter of less than about 1.5 microns, each of the plurality of polyester fibers having grafted thereon a plurality of polymer segments constructed of a methacrylate polymer, each polymer segment carrying a functional group adapted for binding to a target molecule. The invention also provides a method of bioseparation comprising passing a solution comprising the target molecule, such as a protein, through the nonwoven membrane of the invention such that at least a portion of the target molecule in the solution binds to the nonwoven membrane. A method for preparing a polymer-grafted and functionalized nonwoven membrane adapted for use in bioseparation processes is also provided.

The present invention generally relates to porous membranes and other porous articles. In one aspect, the present invention is generally directed to porous membranes and other articles that have a pore size comparable to feature sizes of the extracellular matrix. Such articles may be useful, for example, for tissue engineering (e.g., as a substrate for culturing cells), as a filter, or for other applications. In some cases, the membranes may be formed from biocompatible and/or biodegradable materials. In some embodiments, such membranes may be formed using solvent evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) techniques, although other techniques may be used in other embodiments. Still other aspects of the present invention are directed to methods of using such articles, kits involving such articles, and the like.

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung dünner poröser Membranen aus vernetzbaren Siliconzusammensetzungen (S), bei dem in einem ersten Schritt eine Emulsion aus den Siliconzusammensetzungen (S) mit einem Porenbildner (P) in Gegenwart eines Emulgators (E) und gegebenenfalls Lösungsmittel (L) gebildet wird, in einem zweiten Schritt die Emulsion in eine Form gebracht und das Lösungsmittel (L) gegebenenfalls abdampfen gelassen wird, in einem dritten Schritt die Emulsion vernetzt wird, und in einem vierten Schritt der Porenbildner (P) aus der vernetzten Membran entfernt wird; die nach dem Verfahren herstellbaren Membranen sowie deren Verwendung zur Trennung von Gemischen, in Wundpflastern, als wasserabweisende und atmungsaktive Schicht in Textilien oder als Verpackungsmaterialien.
