Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a multi-compartment medical device for segregated storage and on demand mixing of at least two components and expression of the resulting mixture from the device. The mixing device comprises a syringe having an open end and outlet and containing a first component; and a cap with a fixed outer body and an expandable chamber contained therein, wherein said cap is removably attached to the outlet of the syringe and a cross-section of the cap is larger than a syringe cross-section and the cap is shorter than the syringe.
Abstract:
Provided are methods and devices for dissolving solid protein compositions, such as solid compositions comprising fibrinogen, in an aqueous solvent. The methods comprise use of a closed container containing a volume of solid fibrinogen composition and a head space wherein the pressure within the headspace is sub-atmospheric. Aqueous solvent is introduced into the container while maintain the sub-atmospheric pressure, and subsequent to addition of the solvent, the size of the headspace is decreased to bring the pressure to atmospheric pressure. The devices are suitable for use in the disclosed method.
Abstract:
A mixer comprises a mixing chamber (2), access ports (3) adapted to enable access to the mixing chamber and propulsion means (4) acting on the mixing chamber for moving a mixture M or at least two substances to be mixed inside it; the mixing chamber extends along an operating axis (2a) and comprises an elongating portion (2b) adapted to impart a deforming stretching in the direction of the operating axis along which the mixing chamber itself extends, to a flow of material F disposed inside the mixing chamber, and at least one stratifying portion (2c) connected without a break to the elongating portion and adapted to internally define a multi-layer accumulation of the material flow F coming out of the elongating portion.
Abstract:
Mixing devices and systems are disclosed for storing separate components and for mixing and dispensing those components on demand. A mixing device includes a syringe having a generally tubular housing formed with a mixing chamber. A plunger is fitted to the tubular housing to form a first syringe. A dispensing syringe is releasably connected to the mixing chamber. At this point each syringe holds a desired amount of a mixture component. The contents of one syringe are passed through the mixing chamber to the other syringe, forming a usually incomplete mixture. The mixture is then passed through the mixing chamber to the other syringe. Multiple passes through the mixing chamber are continued until the desired mixing result is achieved, and the mixture material is contained in the second syringe that is used to thereafter dispense desired amounts of the mixture.
Abstract:
Abstract:
An active ingredient, such as particles of a pharmaceutical agent, is uniformly distributed within a transdermal vehicle, such as a gel or other viscous material. The method comprises filling said first container with a non-uniform mixture of a transdermal vehicle and said active ingredient, mounting the first container on a support member, and securing a second container to the first container. The first container has a restricted opening at its proximal end and a piston mounted movably within the first container for movement between a first position proximate said first container distal end to a position proximate said first container proximal end. The second container has a restricted opening at its proximal end and a piston mounted movably within the first container for movement from a first position proximate the second container distal end to a position proximate said second container proximal end. The first container restricted opening and said second container restricted openings are in open communication. The first container's piston is moved from its position proximate the distal end to a position proximate the proximal end and thereby forcing said mixture from the first container into said second container. The positions of the first and second container relative to said support member, are reversed and the process is repeated moving the mixture back and forth between the two containers until a uniform mixture is achieved.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an efficient and cost-effective system for reconstituting bone pastes comprising a first syringe containing a reconstitution fluid and second syringe containing paste components, wherein said first and second syringes are communicatingly interconnectable. Also disclosed are novel methods for producing and storing bone pastes.
