Abstract:
An apparatus for steam reforming of hydrocarbons is described comprising a steam reformer containing a plurality of externally- heated vertical tubes (17) each tube having an inlet for a feed gas mixture comprising hydrocarbon and steam, and an outlet for a reformed gas mixture, wherein the tubes contain a particulate steam reforming catalyst (18) adjacent the outlet and a structured steam reforming catalyst (19) adjacent the inlet. A process for steam reforming of hydrocarbons using said apparatus is also described.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a reactor, a retained catalyst structure, and a method for increasing the rate of decomposition of polysulfides and removal of hydrogen sulfide in liquid sulfur. The reactor, the retained catalyst structure, and the method include a retained catalyst structure arranged and disposed for contacting a first stream and a second stream in a reactor including a catalyst. The catalyst increases the rate of decomposition of polysulfides and facilitates the removal of hydrogen sulfide in the liquid sulfur of the first stream with the second stream. The first stream includes liquid sulfur containing polysulfides and dissolved hydrogen sulfide. The second stream includes an inert gas or a low oxygen-containing gas.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
A gas-liquid contactor baffle includes a body having a first portion, a second portion and a middle portion, the middle portion being positioned between the first portion and the second portion. The middle portion is a corrugated sheet having a first face and a second face. The corrugated sheet has alternating ridges and open ended channels extending across each of the first face and the second face between the first portion and the second portion. The first portion has a first collection channel adapted to collect liquids from the open ended channels of the middle portion when flow is along the first face in a first direction. The second portion having a second collection channel adapted to collect liquids from the open ended channels of the middle portion when flow is along second face in a second direction.
Abstract:
A reactor cartridge includes a plurality of spaced- apart monoliths , formed along a tube or other mandrel . Each monolith is formed of a pair of flat and corrugated metal strips , spirally wound around the tube . These strips could be made of solid or screen material . The corrugations are skewed, such that the monolith imparts a swirl to gases flowing through it . The corrugations of the strips in adjacent monoliths are oriented differently, so that successive monoliths impart different swirls to the gases, so as to promote mixing of gases and better heat transfer from the exterior to the interior of the cartridge. An insertion and removal tool simplifies the procedure for stacking such cartridges in a long pipe, or for removing cartridges from the pipe. The all-metal construction facilitates heat transfer through the entire reactor, and avoids the problems associated with packed ceramic beds.
Abstract:
This distillation column comprises a cross-corrugated packing module formed from strips having corrugations that define channels (14), each channel lying between two main peaks (12; 10) and each channel having two channel legs (16) that are joined together by a top main peak (10; 12). The strip (2) comprises an inverted portion (22) which lies within the cross section of one of the channels (14) and which includes a first intermediate peak (26) oriented in the opposite direction to the top main peak (10; 12) . The inverted portion (22) includes a second intermediate peak (28; 30) oriented in the direction of the top main peak (10; 12). Application to air distillation installations.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a sheet for making a heat exchanger, heat pipe, grill or other structure. The sheet includes a repeating three-dimensional pattern on both surfaces thereof. The pattern includes a plurality of tapered projections and depressions arranged around a substantially planar central region with at least one of the projections terminating in a substantially planar end. The sheet is stackable with other like sheets such that the planar end of the sheet contacts a planar central region of an adjacent sheet and a repeating pattern of interconnected voids is defined between the adjacent sheets.
