Abstract:
A sampling needle and systems for injecting or extracting a sample into or from a container, the sampling needle comprising a hollow shaft, a piercing tip at the bottom end of the shaft, and an anti-coring component at the opening of the bottom end of the shaft for preventing occlusion of the bottom opening of the needle with material from a container when the needle is inserted through a cap or wall of the container.
Abstract:
A connector for providing both a fluidic and electrical connection is disclosed, said connector having a proximal end, a distal end and an elongated body in between, characterized in that the elongated body has an inner cavity spanning throughout its length, and the distal end comprises: a) an inner body portion comprising a first inner electrical contact and b) an outer body portion comprising a second outer electrical contact having a spring element. The connector is easily adaptable to many kind of fluidic actuators and particularly to pipette instruments usually found in laboratory practice and developed to adapt fluidic actuators and pipette instalments to work according to the Coulter principle in every working condition, in particular to adapt the electrical and fluidic connection between a sensing tip and an instrumented pipette.
Abstract:
Novel disposable pipette tips that enable spectroscopic analysis of analytes held within the tip while attached to a microspectrometer or microspectrometer which is a micropipette with the functional capability to irradiate an attached tip with light of a defined wavelength and measure the impact of the sample within the tip on the irradiated light as the modified light is directed back to sensors on or within the instrument. Spectroscopic sample analysis is integral to a wide range of research sciences including microbiology, molecular biology, medical, chemistry, environmental, food, and forensics.
Abstract:
A handheld solid sample pipette device includes a pipette tube with a number of sharpened teeth adapted to pierce solid or substantially solid sample material, the pipette tube adapted to be matingly attached to a device that includes a handle, a plunger, and a piston within a shell of the device. A spring may be positioned to return the plunger to a non-depressed position following depression of the plunger. A sample of the material can be ejected from the handheld device. The handheld device may further include a shear ring apparatus, that in-turn includes a tube portion, a plurality of shear ring teeth, and a knobbed plate for rotating the shear ring. Following insertion of the pipette with sharpened teeth into the sample, the shear ring apparatus is pressed into the sample as well, such that the shear ring tube, which is slidingly engaged about the pipette tube, slides over the pipette tube into the sample. The shear ring teeth pierce the sample, and at a certain point of insertion, the shear ring apparatus is rotated in either or both a clockwise or counter-clockwise manner such that the shear ring teeth sever a portion of the material to be sampled such that the portion remains within the pipette tube, for removal, and analysis.
